tat is the reservior tank. did u fill the radiator to the brim 1st?

the reservior tank act as balancing tank. if the radiator is leaking, it will take water fr the reservior tank. when u do a coolant flushin, r mech wud advise u to keep topping up the balancing tank becos of cavitation fr the flushing.

to know if there is a leak, just check the base of car by moving out fr the parking lot. a whole pool of water sud exist.

it seems that you have more than one problem. fan motor was one and has been resolved.

The next is check whether any leakage. And also check when car is cooled on the radiator..any fountain or such. is the coolant moving when start car....to know whether the water pump and temp valve working

i have gone to workshop to check twice, there isn't any leakage from the hose. but there are evidence that there are coolant vomiting out from the reservoir cap "small straw". is it due to over heating, raditor fan weak, radiator choke or....?

last time i know that i don't really need to top up my coolant for months. but now every 3-4 weeks it will dry up almost the whole reservoir reserves.

I guess there are 2 possibilities.....

1) Radiator cap may deteriorate, hence resulted in leakage when the coolant heated up and escape to atmosphere like steam.

2) Thermostate not working, hence cannot regulate the water/coolant temperature in the system?

the workshop did for me the test. it seems perfectly ok even they try to increase the pumping...

currently i am monitoring my temperature using gauges because i broke the stock one while changing the dial. i realise that the temperature will shoot higher than 100'c if i drive RHF style and also above 110km/h

I had exactly same case as yours. I tot it was due to change head gasket. in the end, it was due to choked radiator. sent it for cleaning. a half day job and my car temp back to normal even if i drive RHF style and above 120km/h

Hi, I had the same problem on my 323, found out that the radiator was choked and the thermostat was faulty. The radiator had to be to be cleaned and flushed, and replacing the faulty thermostat. The cooling fan was also replaced due as the brushes on the fan was going thin, causing poor contact. Hopefully these will give you some lead on you problem [;)]

Neutral Newbie
Q1.

recently i open my bonnet and saw the coolant level only left 2-3cm of coolant level. coolant stain was all over the reservoir cap. i send to my workshop and realised that air con fan is not working at all. The temperature overheated. i have been driving quite sometime, maybe a week with over normal temperature. is my engine hurt in anyway?

after replacing the motor fan, i topped up the reservior with distilled water.

Q2.

yesterday i opened my bonnet and i saw the coolant reservoir is almost empty again. what could have happen? advise???

Simple

1) Check for leak.

2) If no leak then next only possibility is ur cap is not holding pressure anymore. When tat happens, after u topped up full. You can see the reserve tank bubbling away after udrive for a while (No pressure in the cooling system.

Are you still having this problem??? My philosophy for car trouble-shooting is simple (pun intended). Start with the simplest things.

Check all the hoses and look for leaks around the engine block and head (you can see the white marks). If fine get the radiator and cap pressure tested. If they're holding pressure thats when you get the mech to reverse flush the system and change the thermostat (cheap item anyway) as well as get a the leakdown test (as bro yeobh stated) done. If the flushing and thermostat don't fix it, the leakdown test should reveal if there are any leaks in the cylinder.

my workshop only did pressure test on by removing the cap and pump in pressure.

no leak when pressure is being pump?

i need to get a reliable workshop to check for me, cos the current workshop will only say no problem and no leakage what...

Try replacing the radiator cap ( make sure your get the right pressure setting & size) and see what happen. When driving at high speed, initially the coolant temp will shoot up as more heat is being generated and coolant flow speed increase so there is very little contact time for the heat to get transfer to the coolant.

Pressure testing for difficult to detect leak should be conducted by over pressurising the system more than 10%.( the the pressure setting on the cap - Jap car usually 0.9kg/cm2). Further load the cooling system by running the engine until the thermostate cuts in.Cut out the engine and note the pressure gauge reading. If there is a pressure drop then there is a leak.

they did the pressure test by over pressurising...but still no drop in pressure. i guess quite confirm that there is no leak. today i just check my coolant reservior again, it left only about 3 cm. unimpressed.gif

over time, gunk can build up in the cooling system. If you flush it,the cooling efficiency can be improved in this case and hopefully solve the problem.

Get them to check the cap. Btw, have you looked around to see if there are any visible leaks???

(edited)

i have checked the coolant reservior today. there are bubbles bubbling up quite a number of times. i have changed the old radiator cap to a new one with same pressure rating. i still see bubbles bubbling up... btw, there is no visible leak. quite confirm on this.
