Evolutionz Neutral Newbie August 14, 2007 Share August 14, 2007 Ever since I changed to 17", tyres on 215/45/17. I have this 'problem' During low speeds, my steering will actually turn slightly to left and right by itself.. I can actually feel that it follows the road uneven pattern. Is it normal? Also, I had went for alignment tonnes and tonnes of times and I can never remedy this. My car goes stright when steering is straight. No problem with that. But once I let go steering wheel, it will turn left by around 5 degree and my car will start going towards the left. Is it due to uneven wear as I bought the tyres 2nd hand from another guy? Or is it that my rim has warped? Went for balancing, the mechanic never notify me of any problem. No vibrations during high speeds also.. ↡ Advertisement
Furrynadz 5th Gear August 14, 2007 Share August 14, 2007 tramlining wat tyres are u on depending on thread design some tend to tramline more
Slayer666 Neutral Newbie August 14, 2007 Share August 14, 2007 I have the same problem as u. Went to my AD to check whats wrong with the steering today. They checked and nothing seems wrong. I changed my original tyres N Rims to 15" low profile from my previous 14". When road is uneven, the steering would respond to that by veering to the left/right, depending on which wheel hits the unevenness. I was not satisfied by the AD's assumption. To avoid arguements, they changed the front 2 wheels with their stock and went for test drive. No veering at all. What to do... mine is not a 2L and above car. So this issue is common as described by AD. Gotta live with it.

Terenc3 1st Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 "No problem with that. But once I let go steering wheel, it will turn left by around 5 degree and my car will start going towards the left." This one might be uneven wear like you mentioned lor? I got similar problem.. Haha.. Rather tiring to drive on expressway.. Cuz keep veering left.. Must keep on holding to steering wheel. CHange tyre la? I waiting mine to botak then go change le.. Haha..
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 ur tires are brand new right? got sporty thread pattern rite? if it is, confirm tramlining... would consider it normal for new tires. i experienced this with my new 17" tires too, same size as urs... but it will reduce once the tires are worn down... tramlining can also be called "better feedback"! haha! Watwheels Supersonic August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 Erm... This will happen if using performance tyres?? Or is it due to characteristic the camber and toe angle of the car set for the tyres of recommended size??
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 the more aggressive the thread pattern, the higher chance of tramlining... cambertoe angle may enhance tramlining effects. but mostly due to the tires.
Watwheels Supersonic August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 Interesting.... How to rectify the problem? Adjust the alignment to suit the tyres?
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 to rectify the problem...... dun upsize ur wheels lor, use comfort tires lor... no problem to begin with. with every mod, there is a sacrifice. be it comfort, reliability or durability. Watwheels Supersonic August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 Yeah. Stick to recommended size.
Ogima Neutral Newbie August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 it might be uneven wear on the tires. try, if possibe check the date of manufacture of tires. the tires may have hardened due to deterioration & tires have certain shelf lives. try kenny's wheel alignment at AMK. best guy for the job (in my opinion)
Contax 1st Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 Agreed. It happen to my previous GSD3.It just can't go straight when I let go the steering In whatever speed.
Evolutionz Neutral Newbie August 15, 2007 Author Share August 15, 2007 Thanks Guys!My 17" is got some someone else. I'm using Yoko AVS ES100.. So I suppose it tramlining ba.. But threadwear left not much, like 20% left at most. Tramlining quite jia lat also. Haha. Balancing also help to check whether rim got warp or not right? Bladerunner 1st Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 I got the same problem when I upgrade to 18", notice the steering will shift slightly to the left (not much just a bit). Check with Kenny, he mentioned it's a common problem in Sg, cos most of our road are built with a slight degree of slope towards the left (for draining of rain water, i suppose). Furrynadz 5th Gear August 15, 2007 Share August 15, 2007 thats the problem never buy 2nd hand tyres, especially 20% left every car wears tyre differently, this is not tramline already, its called the prev owner wear the tyres according to his car camber and toe in and blah blah, and not suitable for ur car change all 4 to new tyres
Seaweed 1st Gear August 16, 2007 Share August 16, 2007 ha ha...the word upsize remind me of upsize for fast food..."don't upsize your meal...eat the normal meal....no problem with overweight to begin with.""" ha ha ha
