... i feel that the views presented abt christians have been quite biased towards only the extreme cases. i guess nobody deems the moderate and sensible (but still pious) majority worth commenting about [rolleyes]
Most people will only remember the extreme cases and bad experiences and not notice the moderate and ordinary Christian folks. It's b'cos the 'extremist'or cult are usually more active and aggressive in their approach to share the Good News. Some cult groups are known to go on the street or visit homes cos they are illegal and do not have a proper church.

Meanwhile, the ordinary folks are doing works which often out of public views....helping the sicks, poor and handicapped, give tuition to children from poor family, etc...[:)][:)][:)]

I've also seen how these same people condemn other faith/religions. What's the point man? I don't see other religion doing the same thing back to them... so why this hostility? I mean, how would they feel if others speak bad of them?

I met this auntie at Bugis village hawker centre last saturday while having my favourite vegetarian meal.

She asked whether I'm a Buddhist since I clearly enjoyed that meal and started preaching about Jesus Christ and Christianity. Told me that Christians are good natured and don't get angry because God forbid them to but I saw her (minutes ago) scolding one unker in the Tao Huay Jwee stall because he jumped queue without realising that there's a queue.

Anyway to cut things short ---> she kept saying how important it is and that we will get eternal life once we accept Christ.

I asked her ---> Why don't you go kill yourself now so you can go to heaven and join your god? Isn't that a better option compared to suffering on Earth now yeah?

And she got angry and started getting aggressive [rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes]

steady.. got auntie trying to hook you up [thumbsup][laugh]

i just talk logic with them. there's a lot of loopholes in their arguments, and usually they're the ones who will lose their tempers. i always like to ask this question..."Is there god's will or is there freewill". This question will stump a number of them.

Religion is a very powerful thing. Lets take a look at ancient time, the crusade summon by the pope were a series of savage battles carried out in the name of Christian piety to advance the power of the Western church. The first crusade is a holy war that would focus the power of Euro kingdom against Muslim. I dun think any god of any religion will support massacre and killing of innocent people. But people take it too radically to the degree of killing millions and millions of lives. These religious violence is even felt today. Now its terrorism on the Western world, also an act of holy war to them.

Hmm that is quite simplistic analysis. For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades

Many in history have used religion as a means to gain power.

weird i didn't encounter irritating christians tough i have a few irritating christian friends. for me. it's rather a different encounter.

as typical chinses family of mine. all are buddist, from family to relatives.

and a uncle being a director of a temple. when there's festival like for example qing min 7th month (cu 1 and 15th) etc they always have some speical thing praying and joss sticks.

i never offer joss sticks and pray for 3 years already. but often result to very big quarrel and argument. some relatives even ask me to pretend and just make them happy , but i can't as it goes against my principle of hypocrisy as me myself hate hypocrites i wouldn't do that in return.

3 personal logical reasons why i don't

(don't flame me) hope it doesn't offend anyone here.

since talking bout loophole, all this reasons are what i gave my parents and relatives for not believing what they believe.

sometime even result in fights with relative of being not submissive.

1st, if there is a God. there so many god in the temple, so which is real?

2nd, if we know how god look like for example godness of mercy tua pek gong etc and have a statue of them, are you god or rather are those who craft the god god himself? cos he know hw it look like.

3rd, what is the defination of god? to me. not for striking 4D or toto. but i'm more interested in if there's God who create this world as there cannot be so many God creating this world which is shown in the temple.

4th, if i were to believe a few god in the temple exist. i rather not believe and believe in 1 god.

5th, i dislike them who always go to temple just to ask for 4diget to strike big on weekend, if i am god i won't be happy cos u only come and motive is ask for 4diget. (also nv tio)

so it is god's will that cause humans to have free will? doesn't it mean that whether one has free will is dependent on god? then how can it be free will?

Well said Weichen.

My whole family used to be a buddhist from a temple. The temple leader/monk was always misleading everyone & always asking for more money. Some bro/sis here mention about pastor driving big car, I'd also seen many monk driving bigger car like Lexus/BMW/Merc always in Geylang.... all money also from donor like any bro/sis here.

When my dad pass away in 2004, we went to kong ming shan & to our shock, the temple is calling high price for the space for the dead. This temple is functioning more like a trading house..... what is this? You call this buddhist temple? I call them KMSMMT=kong ming shan money making temple.

I also hated to be threaten & punished by any woodcraft toy if 1 day I'd forgotten to repay back any blessing given or punished for stepping onto the burn offering or we must stay away from street after 7pm during the ghost festival. I don't believe in them now especially after I'd master the art of fengshui & bazi (before I fully converted to christian). I'll prefer to accept only 1 true forever forgiving GOD.....I AM.

Now my whole family are a happy Christian. No more threatening by handmade woodcraft toy

I wrote this..."i just talk logic with them. there's a lot of loopholes in their arguments, and usually they're the ones who will lose their tempers. i always like to ask this question..."Is there god's will or is there freewill". This question will stump a number of them."

and your reply doesn't coincide with my comments leh. So your point is?

My comments about your 5 points...

"1st, if there is a God. there so many god in the temple, so which is real?"

Nobody knows. But many claim that their beliefs are the only true one.

"2nd, if we know how god look like for example godness of mercy tua pek gong etc and have a statue of them, are you god or rather are those who craft the god god himself? cos he know hw it look like."

How do you know that only god can see another god? How do you know that there's only 1 god in the 1st place? So how do you know that there really is only 1? maybe there none? maybe there's many?

"3rd, what is the defination of god? to me. not for striking 4D or toto. but i'm more interested in if there's God who create this world as there cannot be so many God creating this world which is shown in the temple."

How do you know god that created this world? How do you prove that before god created the world, there was nothing? If there was nothing before god created it...then where was god?

Are you sure that the many gods in the temples are the ones that created the world? Are you very very sure?

"4th, if i were to believe a few god in the temple exist. i rather not believe and believe in 1 god."

why would you believe in 1 god when you're willing to believe in a few gods?

"5th, i dislike them who always go to temple just to ask for 4diget to strike big on weekend, if i am god i won't be happy cos u only come and motive is ask for 4diget. (also nv tio)"

are you sure that all taoists go to temple to ask for 4 digits? you are stereotyping all taoists. do you have statistics to prove your words here? have you done any surveys to back up your claims?

Assuming if u believe in God, when he created us, he gave us free will. So after he gave us the free will we are no longer dependent on God's will, cos he gave us the power to decide for ourselves and in fact we can even choose to go against God's will.

Some mega churches affect students adversely

I READ with deep interest the article, 'Drawing the line between Caesar and God' (ST, Aug 2).

The objection of one of the large independent churches in Singapore to complying with provisions in the draft code of governance for charities would logically provoke concern about its financial transparency. This is especially so as these are 'rich' churches, judging by their well-equipped premises and set-up. These circumstances bring to light another concern. Some of these 'mega churches' have relentless recruitment activities in many schools and junior colleges.

My friends and I have loved ones whose lives and attitude have changed after they joined these churches. They lose interest in schoolwork to the point of academic failure. Family time is curtailed drastically, and they stop attending family functions. Parental objections are ignored, family squabbles ensue and family harmony is disrupted. It's heartbreaking. It is like we have lost our children.

I write this not to impugn any religion, but to warn against the abuse of religion. Having had such traumatic experiences, I cannot remain silent. I hope this letter will serve as a warning to parents regarding such youth activities that may destroy their personal lives and family harmony.

Dr Lee Bee Wah

Bro i second that. Nt sure if u are a Christian anot.

But some of these churches have these cell groups with consists of Youths between e age of 10+ to 20+. If u dun go for their once weekly or twice weekly session, they sae u backslide etc... Den kena lecture. [gossip]

The moment u step into the church(ur 1st visit), they will "psycho" to u join their CG or church. From there, their no. of members increase. [nod]

My question is for "F"? Ur main objective of setting up a church is to get as many members as possible which actually leads to more $ or worship e Lord? [hur]
