  1. Supermarket chain FairPrice opened a membership-only mega retail store at the FairPrice Hub in Joo Koon on Monday. The two-storey store, named Warehouse Club, sells items in larger than usual packaging, at discounts of up to 20 per cent. It stocks more than 4,000 products, including groceries, fresh and frozen food, electronics, household goods and health and beauty products. The store follows a similar format of successful membership-only stores overseas, such as Costco in the United States. FairPrice deputy chief executive of operations Gerry Lee said the supermarket chain has been progressively introducing various retail formats to cater to the changing lifestyles of its customers. "Today, we are proud to bring another exciting new retail format that aims to provide our members with quality products at the best value, through large discounts with bulk buys, multi-packs and exclusive brands," he said. Exclusive brands available at Warehouse Club includes Costco's Kirkland Signatures and Japanese green tea brand Ito En. Only registered members can purchase from the store, which spans over 80,000 sq ft. A one-year membership costs $35 for NTUC Union members and $50 for non-union members. Nearly 12,000 people have signed up since registration started in May this year. 2. Hi Guys, Been awhile since we last did a mega meet up..... Anyone keen to do it again?
  3. Is China trying to muscle its capabilities in mega projects ? .... Yahoo news: China to Build High-Speed Railway Line from Beijing to US? China is considering building a 13,000km high-speed railway line that would run from Beijing to east coast US, according to official Chinese media. The line, creatively dubbed the China-Russia-Canada-America line, would begin in Beijing, travel north through Siberia, and under the Bering Strait to Alaska before heading south through Canada to reach its final - unspecified - destination in the United States, said the Beijing Times. The journey would take two days to complete if the train maintains its proposed average speed of 350km/h. Although talks are said to be in progress, it is not clear how the countries en route feel. Wang Meng-shu, a railway expert with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said there had been positive feedback. "We're already in discussions. Russia has already been thinking about this for many years," he said. According to China Daily, work has begun with the tunnel technology "already in place". The technology is already being used to build a high-speed railway between Fujian, on China's southeast coast, and Taiwan. The line would be 3,000km longer than the current largest railway line, the Trans-Siberian Railway, and 200km would be beneath the water in the Bering Strait between Russia and Alaska – four times longer than the submerged section of the Eurotunnel. "The project will be funded and constructed by China," the report added. "The details of this project are yet to be finalised." The Beijing Times has said the China-US line is just one of four proposals for huge cross-border railway projects. One is a line from the southwest city of Kunming to Singapore, another runs from China's Urumqi Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey to Germany. 7. The main unit pretty straight forward.......red to positive and blue to negative on battery terminals. Basically given a bracket (rivert onto metal surface inside bonnet compartment), all grounding cables will be screwed to the bracket on one end of grounding cable. The other end of grounding cable will be screwed onto various places like engine, throtlebody.........(unsure where else needs grounding). My query is one of the grounding cable is required to connect to battery node right? Which polarity to connect over?

  14. saw this on ST webby.... http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Sto...ory_159276.html Some mega churches affect students adversely I READ with deep interest the article, 'Drawing the line between Caesar and God' (ST, Aug 2). The objection of one of the large independent churches in Singapore to complying with provisions in the draft code of governance for charities would logically provoke concern about its financial transparency. This is especially so as these are 'rich' churches, judging by their well-equipped premises and set-up. These circumstances bring to light another concern. Some of these 'mega churches' have relentless recruitment activities in many schools and junior colleges. My friends and I have loved ones whose lives and attitude have changed after they joined these churches. They lose interest in schoolwork to the point of academic failure. Family time is curtailed drastically, and they stop attending family functions. Parental objections are ignored, family squabbles ensue and family harmony is disrupted. It's heartbreaking. It is like we have lost our children. I write this not to impugn any religion, but to warn against the abuse of religion. Having had such traumatic experiences, I cannot remain silent. I hope this letter will serve as a warning to parents regarding such youth activities that may destroy their personal lives and family harmony. Dr Lee Bee Wah

  21. http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=1998_mega_monte_carlo-1.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=1998_mega_monte_carlo-2.jpg Aixam-Mega Started in 1983, the French Aixam Group started producing two and four wheel vehicles that could be driven without a license. This production evolved into the micro-car market and, in 1992, a motor sport program was started under the new Mega name. The first production road car from Mega was the Track. It used the Mercedes V12, delivering 394 horsepower to all four wheels. A unique feature of the Track was it's adjustable ride height. At full height, the car raised it's clearance from eight to thirteen inches! Only five examples of the Track were completed, before a new more exciting product would take its place. The Monte Carlo Mega decided to join the small group of manufacturers producing exclusive supercars in 1996. Their acquisition of Monte-Carlo Automobile Ltd included plans to build an exclusive super sports car for both the road and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mega turned to Sera CD, a vehicle engineering Research and Development Company, for design of the Monte Carlo. SERA CD used computer aided design to manufacture the first prototype which included special attention paid to the flat underbody and rear diffuser. Much like the Porsche 917s and F1 cars built by Sera CD, the Monte Carlo was both striking and purpose built. The first Monte Carlo was displayed at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show. It showcased proven engineering which included a carbon fiber chassis, carbon fibre brakes and a mid-mounted, Mercedes V12 engine. By 1998 a production version was ready with optional carbon brakes and rear wing. Conclusion Production of cars such as the Mega Monte Carlo is a rare occurrence. Seldom does a small manufacturer have the resources to develop, market and produce such a complex product, especially against huge conglomerates and global brands. Companies such as Mega, Pagani and Koenigsegg should be recognized not only for their radical design, but for their determination to create exceptional automobiles for such small markets.
