Authorities said there was no reason to believe the deaths were linked to the vaccine but an investigation, including post mortems, was underway. "It makes it hard for us to put out a categorical statement," South Korean Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip told a briefing on Wednesday (Oct 21) about the deaths, which include a 17-year-old boy and a man in his 70s. Coming just weeks after the rollout of the national vaccine programme was suspended over safety worries, the deaths have dominated headlines in South Korea. Officials last month announced plans to procure 20 per cent more flu vaccines for the winter than the previous year to inoculate 30 million people in a bid to prevent the health system being overloaded by patients with flu and Covid-19 exposure. However, the start of a free jab programme for around 19 million eligible people was suspended for three weeks after it was discovered that some five million doses, which need to be refrigerated, had been exposed to room temperature while being transported to a medical facility. Boosting public trust in vaccines has become a major global challenge this year, as some countries rush to approve experimental Covid-19 vaccines before full safety and efficacy studies have been completed. South Korea's flu vaccines are supplied by different drugmakers, including LG Chem Ltd and Boryung Biopharma, a unit of Boryung Pharm. A Boryung official said the company was aware of the reported deaths, but had no immediate comment. LG Chem said the company would follow government advice. A 17-year-old boy who died on Friday was the first death noted by officials to follow receipt of the vaccine. The boy died two days after receiving the flu shot in Incheon, near the capital Seoul. A man in his 70s, who had Parkinson's disease and arrhythmia, was the most recent case. He died in Daegu on Wednesday, a day after receiving the flu vaccine. Daegu officials said the man had received vaccines since 2015 with no prior adverse reactions. Officials said 8.3 million people have been inoculated with the free flu vaccine since it resumed on Oct 13, with around 350 cases of adverse reactions reported. The highest number of deaths linked to the seasonal flu vaccination was six in 2005, according to Yonhap news agency. Even before the coronavirus pandemic, trust in vaccines was a growing challenge for public health bodies. The World Health Organization named vaccine hesitancy as one of the top 10 global health threats for last year. In South Korea, a poll earlier this month found that 62 per cent of 2,548 respondents in Gyeonggi province, near Seoul, would not get vaccinated against Covid-19, even if a vaccine is approved, until all safety questions are fully answered. Seems like SPF and MSM is keeping very quiet about this incident. An area the size of a football field was cordoned off for six hours in Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday (Sept 26) after a flaming cylindrical object was tossed into a hawker centre, sparking panic. According to a report in Lianhe Wanbao on Wednesday, there were over 50 police officers at the scene. The incident took place at Block 226 in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, where Kebun Baru Food Centre is located. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident at 4.40pm and it sent a fire engine to the scene. The fire was extinguished by two hawkers prior to its arrival. No one was injured in the case of mischief by fire, according to police. Investigations are ongoing. The Straits Times understands that no arrests have been made yet. The object was thrown from 50m outside the hawker centre by an unidentified person, reported Lianhe Wanbao. Stall vendors were preparing for the dinner crowd, when they head a loud sound. One of them said he saw a ball of light heading towards his stall, and he was frightened and worried that it was going to explode. According to Lianhe Wanbao, he then used a metal hook from the fruit stall to hit it away. It started burning after it landed under a table, and had to be extinguished by two hawkers with a fire extinguisher.

In a statement, the Singapore Police Force said that a "trio was earlier stopped at a Police vehicular checkpoint set up along Ardmore Park. When asked to open the car boot for checks, the driver suddenly accelerated the vehicle towards Anderson Road."Despite Police warnings to stop, the driver continued to crash through Police barricades, endangering the lives of the officers."Police opened fire at the vehicle to stop further danger. The vehicle subsequently stopped at the junction of Orange Grove Road and Anderson Road."Substances believed to be drugs were found on one of the persons arrested, the statement added. Orange Grove Road, Anderson Road and Ardmore Park are temporarily closed to facilitate police operations. The police say they are "in control of the situation", and have advised that members of public stay away from the area.

SEREMBAN, Malaysia - Doctors at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital will perform a surgery to remove a bullet that was lodged in the rib cage of Malaysian Crime watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman R Sri Sanjeevan. State police chief Datuk Osman Salleh said the 29-year-old Sanjeevan has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit in stable condition. "He was moved from the Kuala Pilah hospital early today for the surgery," SAC Osman said. SAC Osman said the victim was shot once. The bullet pierced his right elbow and lodged in the right side of the rib cage. "We have also put our men on duty at the hospital to prevent any untoward incident," he said. Sanjeevan's family members are keeping vigil at the hospital since he was brought here from Kuala Pilah. Sanjeevan, a bachelor, was shot by a pillon rider when he stopped his BMW car at a traffic light junction in Taman Cempaka at about 4.30pm on Saturday. He was then with another friend. SAC Osman said both the riders on the motorcycle had dark complexion and wore full-faced helmets. Sanjeevan managed to drive some 300m and later asked his friend to take over the wheel. He was taken to the Jempol hospital and later to Kuala Pilah hospital. Police have classified the case as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code. SAC osman said police have detained Sanjeevan's 35-year-old friend for an unrelated case. "His friend was on the police's wanted list for a drug related offence. "I wish to state here that the friend was not detained for the shooting incident as reported by the social media," he said.

SEOUL: South Korea's military on Sunday pursued a massive manhunt near the tense border with North Korea for a soldier who shot dead five comrades in a rare shooting incident. The army sergeant, surnamed Lim, opened fire on other soldiers at a guard post on the eastern section of the heavily guarded inter-Korea border Saturday night. The shooting spree left five dead and seven injured -- all members of Lim's own unit at the 22nd infantry division in the western province of Gangwon. He ran off with a K2 assault rifle and a stash of ammunition, a military spokesman said. Another official told AFP that Lim was due to be discharged in the next few months after completing his compulsory military service. The army issued its highest state of alert in nearby areas and launched a huge search involving thousands of soldiers and police, who set up roadblocks and inspected vehicles. "A manhunt is underway to find him as early as possible and to prevent another incident from taking place," defense ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told reporters. The army has formed a special team to investigate the incident, he said, adding that the wounded soldiers are in a stable condition. "We have deployed as many troops as possible to the search operations and to block possible escape routes," Colonel Roh Jae-Chun, a spokesman for the operation, told reporters. The military is also closely monitoring the border with the North to prevent Lim from fleeing to the North, Yonhap news agency said, quoting an army official. The 22nd infantry division was the scene of a bloody shooting in 1984, when a private opened fire and threw a grenade at barrack mates, killing 15. Cho Jun-Hee then crossed the border to defect to the North, a move which Pyongyang's state media later confirmed. The site of Saturday's shooting is located just south of the demilitarised zone (DMZ) -- a buffer strip that runs the full length of the 250-kilometre (155-mile) frontier. The four-kilometre-wide DMZ -- known as the world's last Cold War frontier -- features guard posts manned by the rival armies, barbed wire and roads bisecting minefields. Because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty, the two Koreas technically remain at war. Many of the South Korean soldiers on border duty are young male recruits doing their mandatory, two-year military service. These young men make up a large part of the South's 691,000-strong troop presence, compared to 1.17 million in the North. But bullying and cruelty in the barracks have long overshadowed the armed forces, and have been blamed for many fatal incidents in the military. In July 2011, a 19-year-old Marine doing his military service killed four colleagues in a shooting spree on Gangwha island near the border. He tried to kill himself with a grenade but survived. He later said he acted after being bullied. In June 2005, eight soldiers were killed and two seriously wounded when a 22-year-old conscript threw a grenade and sprayed bullets over sleeping colleagues at a frontline guard post north of Seoul. In both those cases the men were court martialed and sentenced to death, although the penalty was not carried out. Noazita Abu Talib, 37, was shot once in the face with a pump-gun in the 6.20pm incident. It is learnt that the victim was opening the door to the vault when she was shot. Noazita was a mother of two and had been working at Ambank for 16 years. The security guard, who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash on a motorcycle, has been identified as a 37-year-old Sabahan with a fake IC. Subang Jaya deputy superintendant Tan Ah Chua was at the scene when contacted and confirmed the incident. But he declined to elaborate further. State deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the suspect was armed and considered to be dangerous, cautioning the public to stay vigil. Meanwhile, police are looking for Ardi Hamza whose last known address is 70, Jalan Apas, Batu 2, Tawau, Sabah to facilitate investigations. The guard, in his 40s, who was armed with a pump-action shotgun, was no match for the robbers, who were armed with semi-automatic pistols. The robbers fired nine shots, with five hitting the guard. They then grabbed a sling bag containing RM100,000 in Singapore dollars (S$40,217) before escaping in a waiting car. Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said the incident happened at 8pm when the guard and his employer, a moneychanger who operated from a shopping mall, were walking towards their car after closing the outlet. "They were intercepted by two armed robbers wearing masks, who got down from a car while another waited behind the wheel. "One of the robbers grabbed the sling bag from the moneychanger. "The guard went for his pump-action shotgun, but before he could fire, the two gunmen shot him." Ismail said the shots were fired at point-blank range. The guard collapsed while the moneychanger was unhurt. The robbers escaped in their car. The guard was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital here and his condition is reported to be stable. Police believed the robbers had watched the moneychanger for several days before making their move. Ismail said nine slugs were found at the scene. "We are working on several leads and hope to identify the robbers soon," he said after a crime-prevention programme at the Johor Religious Department here yesterday.

"I overtook his vehicle and pulled up beside him. "He then showed me the middle finger. He also shouted at me to get out of my car, like he wanted to fight with me." I thought it was well written and a good indication of how some youths are reacting to the current approach of the WP in their campaigning. Nonetheless, I find myself disagreeing with the main points which she tries to bring up. The battle for Aljunied GRC, or any other parliamentary seat for that matter, IS about Singapore's future, and should NEVER be about the welfare for the residents. Singapore, unlike many other countries in the world, is actually very, very homogeneous. The majority of Singaporeans are either: studying, working for a GLC, MNC, SME or the civil service, doing National Service or retired. Unlike other countries, we do not have Agriculture vs. Industry lobbies, nor do we have say, Mining vs. Environmental groups jostling for political power. This means that the elected government would never have to face trade-offs due to partisan demands unlike in other countries. This also means, that the elected government would never have any trouble in looking after the welfare of Singaporeans, NO MATTER THEIR AREA OF RESIDENCE. News Report .A production engineer prowled Orchard Road and took "85 upskirt videos in one day" last September. 47-year-old Tham Nam Sang pled guilty to five charges while the remaining 80 will be taken into consideration while sentencing. The videos, all taken without the women's knowledge, were all recorded on 6 September 2008 in Ngee Ann City and other shopping malls in Singapore along Orchard Road. The culprit used two digital cameras to capture "upskirt" videos of women in skirts. The court understood that after having dinner in Orchard Road, Tham placed one camera in a paper bag and turned it on to record a video, with his lens facing upwards. He proceeded to walk behind his victims while holding the paper bag under their skirts. After that, he would use his second camera to take a pictures of the victims' faces to match the videos. He captured a total of 120 minutes of video clips. According to lawyer Jacob Lim, his client was suffering from major depressive disorder when he committed the offences. District Judge Soh Tze Bian has postponed the sentencing until April 28, and has called for a probation report. Tham faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a fine for each offence. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one steady... Bros, Just saw something interesting 2 days ago. Was driving along Hougang Ave 3, near Singapore Girls' Home. Stopped by a traffic light and notice a guy standing at the kerb of the opposite traffic. Caught my attention as he was standing near a bus stop but don't seem to be waiting for bus as he was not looking at the direction of on-coming traffic and was hiding behind a billboard. Soon realise that he was manning a camcorder on a tripod. The direction of the camcorder was pointed to shoot the car number plate at the back. Each time a car drive by the bus lane, he would write some notes in his book, I presumed to verify against camcorder records. So bros be warned, stay out of the bus lane!! You may not even know you got shot!! Regards DD

Taken from Sammyboy Kopitiam I was driving along Upp Thomson (towards Sembawang) around 6pm on 22 Dec 10 when a Citroen C6 bearing licence plates SBA2084 (missed the check letter at the end) filtered across two lanes from the PIE into the centre lane in front of me without signaling. I tapped on my horn but there was no response. I then notice a white VW Toureag to my left. The driver (in dark glasses) smiled at me and briefly shook his head. The VW too filtered in front of me, but politely and with the proper signals. I then realized it had flashing lights and was in fact a police vehicle. I was behind a mini ministerial convoy. The C6 driver was decidedly reckless changing lanes frequently, often without signaling. The VW often had trouble keeping up. I wondered why such an idiotic driver would remain in the employ of a minister. I then chose to pass the convoy and realized that the C6 had only two occupants in the front seat, meaning that the driver was probably the minister himself.
