  1. Thanks Mothership for bringing us firsthand news as always! Time to drive to Orchard Road for the festive lights. Here's a look at this year's carnival-themed Christmas light-up along the Orchard shopping district. 📅 Now till Jan. 2, 2023 📍 3.1-km stretch from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura
  2. Look like the owner of the ferrari got screwed in the ass
  3. TL;DR - A taxi and a lorry collided, sending the front bumper of the taxi out onto the bustling traffic of Orchard. A perfect example of great minds think alike - aiming for the same lane at the same time. Watch this 107-second video to see a flying bumper. So what happened? A ComfortDelgro taxi and a Sunshine Bread lorry were turning right into two different lanes when the lorry sideswiped the taxi, resulting in the taxi losing its entire bumper. The driver of the lorry then came out of his vehicle, hurling expletives and signaling gestures of unhappiness as he walked towards the taxi. Seems like man is all pumped up (with anger) for a fight. If you're kept abreast of road accidents in Singapore, you would know this path has seen quite a few accidents. In case you're heading to town, do take extra precaution when driving along this road. Online Chatter Some netizens are faulting the lorry for not staying in his lane/inching forward before turning, while others are blaming the taxi for not checking for safety before driving off. There are even some who brought LTA into the picture for the poorly designed roads here. Takeaway Lane markings are there for a reason, stay well within them and have good lane discipline. Apart from that, it is also imperative to always have an eye for blind spots (geddit?) ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. Seen on Mothership.sg is a family of otters trying to cross Orchard Road near Plaza Singapura over the weekend. With more than 10 of them in the family, the leader of the pack tried a few times to cross the road despite the heavy traffic. According to the article, the otters, which were squeaking, turned around twice as they realised it was not the right time to cross yet. We bet it must have been nerve-wrecking for everyone viewing this, especially the last part where a yellow CityCab taxi nearly couldn't stop in time for them. Thankfully, all of them made it across eventually.
  5. Another day and another careless driver. Today, we have for you guys an accident that happened at the junction of Orchard Road and Buyong Road. As seen from the photo, a SMRT cab has collided with a Nissan truck which in turn has flipped over. We hope those involved in the accident are alright as of press time, though there is currently no news on whether there are any injuries or not. 8e96337c-f950-4b82-a6ef-90577e45cdbc.MP4 From the video, we can understand a bit better what caused the truck to flip over. That said, we have no idea why the taxi slowly crept forward into the junction although the lights did not turn green. We did note that his brake lights weren't on all when he came into frame, suggesting to us that he could have fallen asleep at the wheel, letting the car roll forward into traffic.

  8. Forever 21 weighs bankruptcy filing Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/business/companies-markets/forever-21-weighs-bankruptcy-filing NEW YORK • Forever 21 is preparing for a potential bankruptcy filing as the fashion retailer's cash dwindles and turnaround options fade, according to people with knowledge of the plans. The company has been in talks for additional financing and is working with a team of advisers to help it restructure its debt, but negotiations with possible lenders have so far stalled, the people said. Focus has thus shifted towards securing a potential debtor-in-possession loan to take the company into Chapter 11, they said, even as some window remains to strike a last-minute deal that keeps it out of court. A bankruptcy filing would help the company shed unprofitable stores and recapitalise the business, said the people, who requested anonymity discussing private negotiations. Representatives for Forever 21 did not respond to a request for comment. Co-founder Chang Do-won had been focused on maintaining a controlling stake in the company, which limited its fund-raising options. A faction of Forever 21 officials, without the approval of Mr Chang, had asked its biggest landlords to consider taking a stake in the company amid a disagreement within its leadership, Bloomberg previously reported. Founded in 1984, Forever 21 operates more than 800 stores in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. It was founded by South Korean husband-and-wife team, Mr Do and his wife Jin Sook, after they immigrated to the US. Outside the US, most of stores are franchised or operated in joint ventures with local partners. While there used to be as many as four outlets in Singapore, the brand has closed all but one store, which is at 313@Somerset. BLOOMBERG
  9. Visitors to Orchard Road will soon be able to grab a bite from a food truck and catch a street performance under the stars. A new monthly night-time event will kick off in May to inject vibrancy into the shopping belt's offerings after dusk. Called Night at Orchard, it will feature arts, fashion, food and musical performances by buskers every first weekend of the month, organiser Orchard Road Business Association (Orba) told The Straits Times. The first edition of the roving event will be held on the pedestrian walkways between Ion Orchard and Ngee Ann City on May 3, starting at 5pm. More details will be made available in the coming weeks. It is part of a year-long trial for Orba to bring pop-up concepts and arts and entertainment events to pedestrian spaces along the street. First announced in January as a piece of larger plans to refresh Orchard Road, the trial will kick off this month with a pop-up by Korean cosmetics brand Hera. The Singapore Tourism Board's (STB) chief executive, Mr Keith Tan, told ST in a recent interview that the latest attempt to rejuvenate the 2.4km stretch must not "just remain plans". There will be visible changes to the street from this year, starting with the street-level activities curated by Orba, he said. Later phases may see other government proposals come to fruition, including the addition of more greenery and turning part of the street car-free. Compared to countries like Taiwan with many famous permanent night markets - Shi Lin, Rao He, Shida etc etc, Bangkok - Chatuchak, Asiatique etc etc, even Malaysia got many night markets - Jonker, Alor Street, and as near as the night market outside KSL on Mondays, sg really lose out on street vibrancy. all we have are malls, malls, clean streets. even the shops in the malls are such repetition. every small same shops same items. everytime i go overseas youll be sure i plan night markets into our itinerary for the family. these vendors should also bring some form of uniqueness or identity in the items they are selling. if you go bali, theyre known for their rattan, wood, handmade products with engraving. we need some form of identity that represents sg and not just generic stuff we can buy from inside the malls. its a good step forward to allow buskers, street vendors into places like orchard, gardens by the bay etc. just hope we are not too late to play catchup, and not too rigid.
  10. SINGAPORE - A section of Orchard Road will be turned into a no-car zone and become a walker's paradise. The 660m stretch from shopping centres ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City, or between Scotts/Paterson and Bideford junctions, will be closed to all vehicles on the first Saturday of every month from October.- As part of a six-month trial, shoppers can roam the street without worrying about honking drivers, who will be shut off from the stretch between 6pm and 11pm. The Orchard Road Business Association (Orba) hopes that such a move will draw more shoppers to the shopping belt and revitalise the area, which is facing stiff competition from new shopping haunts like Marina Bay as well as suburban malls. Shutting sections of road happens routinely on certain weekends in most major shopping cities, including London and Tokyo. And in Beijing, the Wang Fu Jing shopping street is permanently closed to traffic. This also happens every year in Orchard Road, for big events such as the Christmas celebrations on Dec 25 and the annual Fashion Steps Out show. For the new Pedestrian Night, organisers have been roped in to turn the street into a hive of activity. For the inaugural street event on Oct 4, for instance, there will be a mass tennis clinic. Dubbed Tennis Pops Up@Orchard Road, revellers can play street tennis, watch live exhibition matches and music performances. The event is held together with the Women's Tennis Association finals, which will be staged here next month.Other events like a mass yoga session and a Christmas carnival have been planned till the end of the year. The once-a-month street events are partially funded by the Singapore Tourism Board andOrba. Mrs May Sng, Orba's chairman, said Orchard Road "will no longer just be a shopping belt but a vibrant lifestyle destination with an array of exciting activities for all to enjoy".

  16. Hi does anyone knows any cheap season parking around Winsland House, Orchard?
  17. Anyone realised if the waiting time for a taxi in Orchard is becoming longer? Am I the only one?
  18. A pity, because I think this is a very good restaurant. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/lei-garden-closes-orchard-shopping-centre-branch-2014070 With so many restaurants closing down, or on the brink of closing down, due to manpower shortage issues, and such news being repeatedly published on MSM, I think the message is clear. It reminds me of an oatmeal comic. Food can really get people to react like nothing else can:
  19. I just briefly did a search n to my surprise there are at least 20 over bus services on Orchard road. Let's say 1 bus = to 3.5 cars length, so at anytime if there are 4 bus in 1 bus stop n there are 8 bus stop along Orchard road. 4(Bus) x 1(Bus stop) x 8 (Bus sop) = 32 Bus 1 Bus = 3.5 (Car) length 32 (Bus) x 3.5 = 112 Imagine, 112 cars occupying the road anytime during the day. Above is just an example of x numbers of buses could be traveling on Orchard road day time. My question is do we really need so many bus servicing Orchard road?
  20. Hi everyone, I just want to find out if anyone knows of season parking around Somerset area? Malls and office buildings. If you do, can advise the monthly rates? Inputs would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
