The United States strongly condemned the "act of violence" which left the ambassador bleeding profusely as he was taken to hospital, and said that President Barack Obama had spoken with him." The President called (Lippert) to tell him that he and his wife Robyn are in his thoughts and prayers, and to wish him the very best for a speedy recovery," said Bernadette Meehan, National Security Council spokeswoman. Witnesses said a man with a blade concealed in his right hand attacked Lippert as he was attending a breakfast function at the Sejong Cultural Institute in central Seoul. Video footage in the immediate aftermath of the attack showed the ambassador being rushed out of the building holding one hand to his bleeding right cheek, and his other hand smeared with blood with an apparent wound to the wrist. Lippert, 42, was bundled into a police car and rushed to hospital, where a US embassy spokesman said he was in a "stable" condition. http://news.yahoo.com/us-ambassador-attacked-seoul-231729097.html

    Cabby slashed at Jurong West

SINGAPORE - An early morning shift left an unsuspecting cabby with deep wounds on his arm after passenger went on slashing rampage. The CityCab taxi driver, only known as Mr Tan, 58, picked up the male passenger at around 6.20am in Telok Blangah. He asked to go to Jurong West, reported Shin Min Daily News on Sunday. When they arrived at the destination, Mr Tan stopped near a waste collection centre at the foot of a HDB block. As he stopped the meter and turned around to collect the fare, the passenger took out a weapon and started to attack him. "It happened so quickly, and it was still dark. I couldn't see what weapon he was using," said Mr Tan. "When I tried to retaliate, he attacked me again." As the attacker did not take any valuables, the driver believes he had no intention of robbing him. Residents reportedly heard shouts in the area. One resident reportedly saw the attacker fleeing from the scene. It is believed that the taxi driver tried to give chase on foot, leaving a 20-metre blood trail. Blood stains were also seen on the right door and window of the taxi. Police have confirmed the case and are currently investigating. Shin Min reported that the police combed the area for about five hours, but to no avail. So far, no one has been arrested. ComfortDelGro group, which runs the CityCab fleet, said it will render assistance to the driver. Mr Tan is currently warded at the National University Hospital. He said the nerves in his left arm have been damaged and he requires surgery. He also said he may quit driving.
  4. AsiaOne Tuesday, Jul 26, 2011 A mainland Chinese couple, both in their 30s, were slashed in their necks at the doorstep of their flat at Blk 716, Tampines Street 71 yesterday at about 10.20pm. They were about to enter the flat when the attacker charged towards them with a knife, reported Shin Min Daily. The attacker is allegedly a youth who lived one floor below the couple, and has been observed to behave strangely. He is also believed to be suffering from mental illness. When attacked, the couple resisted, but could not prevent being injured. They shouted for help and caught the attention of their neighbour, Mr Lim, a 74-year-old retiree. Mr Lim recalled that the corridor and his neighbours' potted plants were stained with blood. He saw that the couple were in shock, but conscious and held cloth against their wounds to prevent excessive loss of blood as they sat leaning against each other. The youth appeared to be injured from the scuffle and was lying motionless on the corridor floor. The police arrived at the scene and brought the youth away.
  5. Wah!!! Very gangsta nowadays. Go out don't anyhow stare at people ... What a waste of a young life... I'm surprised the attackers were daring enough to do this in front of a whole crowd (Downtown East, on Saturday???) Might as well be a crowd of sheep... http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_597565.html Oct 31, 2010 Teen slashed to death HALLOWEEN horror became real on Saturday night at Downtown East. A 19-year-old youth repeatedly hacked by a group of youths in full view of a crowd died in hospital hours later. The violent attack and subsequent attempt by the youth and his friends to flee left a 500m long trail of blood at the Pasir Ris resort and amusement park. No one has been arrested and police have classified the case as murder. Darren Ng Wei Jie was with two friends when they got into a 'staring incident' with a group of about 10 teenagers. Witnesses The Straits Times spoke to said the encounter started with angry words, but this descended into a punch-fest on the lawn just outside fast-food restaurant MacDonald's. It is believed Darren's attacker produced a chopper and slashed him several times. The bleeding teenager and his friends tried to escape by running towards a row of indoor restaurants and shops called The Alley. The dead youth is believed to have been in his third year at Republic Polytechnic and also in its water polo team. Anyone with information may call the police at 1800-255-0000.
