1. Whether you're novice or not or the autoshop is novice or not, you should at least know what triggered that CEL. It should be reflected in the diagnostic tool and it is for your interest to knwo and for that installer to tell you.

2. For example, the fault code could be pointing to fault spark plug, exhaust and etc. No one can tell what is the problem with Naked eyes one. They surely need some tool to diagnose it initially.

Dear Kelpie,

Thanks for your advice. What sort of tool shall be use to diagnose?

They have used the scan tool and it didnt work.

I will ask my installer on this. Any other advices or precaution I should heed?

Cheers,

Tommy

agree. the CEL could be caused by something simple or could also point to major problems due to the mod as TS mentioned that it appeared a day after adding the chip ...... sweatdrop.gif

You mention that the workshop have used scan tool but did they tell you what was the CEL code?

Only by finding out what the code represent can you really solve the problem, if they use scan tool just to clear the CEL without finding what the CEL code represent, than they are not solving the real problem shakehead.gifshakehead.gifshakehead.gif

Hi Johnny,

They did not tell me what is the problem. After trying out the scan tool, they decided to adjust my mapping parameters to reduce the ignition timing and reset the ECU. Still, both solutions didnt work.

After staying for about 2.5 hours, I have decided to make a move as I couldnt wait much longer to resolve the situation. I will need to make a second appointment to sort it out one more time.

Okay so I presume the scan tool should be able to diagnose what causes the engine light issue, I will check with my installer on that and get that code.

If they still cant resolve it, I will post the CEL code for all of you to feedback.

To all, thanks for the help.

Cheers,

Tommy

The workshop might be using an older scanner that does not support the CAN protocol used in your Mazda 2. Re-tuning the unichip will not remove the CEL. I can help read the code and clear the CEL for you. PM me. Don't worry, FOC. [;)]

I have fixed a scan gauge II. quite good as i can read a few important parameter of my ride....occasionally i use it to clear CEL....so i dont have to bother myself to go down to the workshop.

If you did not do any major mod on yr ride (like TC, high CR, Cam)...i would say the fault code are usually not those critical one. It could be trigger by sensitive sensor reading such as emission, temp, faulty spark...etc...just copy down the code and find out wht it mean online..... if you are still worrying...check with yr workshop to see wht need to be done..

Hey Tommisan, had the same prob as u, went back to my tuner to check, he scanned for me n deleted the error code plus adjusted the timings a bit, he assured me the power will be same and better still he updated the new unichip software tat juz came out, now car feels v smooth revving n light. Also have u changed ur air box setup? the cel can also be due to ur air filter being dirty so the air flow sensor not working properly.
