Zanter 3rd Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 They will likely reduce COE's growth from current 3% to maybe 1.5%. So that drop in COE is not really huge. Of course the AD's & PI's will instill fear into the car buyers to commit into more debts. The demand side of it is much reduced cos many car buyers are stuck. Most people have to top up their finance co if they wanna get outta their 7-10 year car loans. Moreover 3 year old cars are now sold @ scrap prices unless its a premium brand. Zakuii 1st Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 No. of COE should be reduced in order to reduce traffic congestions. ERP will not reduce traffic congestions. ERP will only fatten the govt coffers.

Zakuii 1st Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 There should be negative growth on the COE to reduce the overall COE quota.
Zanter 3rd Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 Negative growth will make sense when roads are being reduced. More likely growth will be pegged to road growth. It is also likely we will see more KPE type tunnels cos of Sg land shortages so there will be still growth in COE's but that growth moderated. Joshterran 1st Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 i tot the minister said ERP enables more to own car? so COE unlikely to reduce much rite? Hi, "RAY" cited that ERP will enables more to own cars. COEs policy is formulated in the 1990s to control the car population so that cars can be scrapped away upon reaching 10 years life span. EPR is formulated to control road usage of certain expressways during peak hours in order to allow a minimum speed of 45km/h. This is to prevent cars which does not need to use these ERP controlled road during peak hours to distour to other roads. Cars which geninue need to use these road will have to pay for ERP. COEs After implementation, they realised that ppl still buy cars in spite of the high COEs and these COEs are big $ revenue generating without virtually any costs. Which businesses in the world can afford to have much a high return without a single cents? I think even LEE KIA SHEEN in Hongkong must also sing praises for S'pore. ERP They found that even the high ERP charges also didnt deter car owners from driving through these roads. So if they install more gantries, ppl will still have to drive through so WHO CARES ! SO they will keep planning to install more ERP. (Wait & See). These days I saw some part timers sitting on the road side and counting the vehicles esp peak hours. I think my next car will be 2 door weekend car instead, follow government idea own car but hardly use. ↡ Advertisement
