People don't donate food these days. $$$ makes the world go round. The time is different compared to 2,500 yrs ago in India. All catholic priests and buddhist monks are all taken care off by their respective religious order. They don't need to earn a salary, so they can dedicate their time in their spiritual persuit and tending to their flocks. The catholic priests do have some minimum allowance in a few hundreds. Just that such ppl exists probably in places where they usually gives out $$$ and do not take in $$ like charity or religious organisations and then supposedly gives the $$ out again!
