Why so ignorant?

Never really posted a complaint before but i guess i need to get this out.

So i was on duty today and there happened to be a casualty during one of the training. This guy was semi-conscious after completing his fast march (12km). The medic on cover assessed him and the guy was suffering from heat exhaustion. After treating him in the resuscitation room with the MO and myself he was sent to CGH due to his deteriorating condition (high BP, altered state of mental health, pale complexion etc.)

The irritating part is that there was reservist training for Nsmen during that time and they were all leaving the camp. Knowing that the land rover ambulance was moving out (mind you with sirens and spotlight) the cars just refused to give way for the ambulance to exit the guard house. Why? A person's life in green uniform is not as valuable as a civillian? Never mind, 3 mins wasted just trying to leave the camp.

The motorists on the road weren't any better. All refuse to give way eventually doing so when my driver horned them.

I'm just wondering, although some may feel that SAF is a "wayang" job but wehn lives are at stake i believe in doing it right. I'm like all other NSF (just serve and fcuk off) but i hate to see a persons life just slip away at the palm of my hands thanks to ignorant motorists.

At then end of the day that person is still in hospital, and no news yet as of this hour. Don't worry if anything happens to him where do the fingers go pointing to? I'm sure we all know the answer.

Just thought i'd share with you guys a day in my life.

Cheers

So by that logic you're goin to assume that all SAF land rover ambulances are out just for fun. The sirens and flashing beacons looks cool huh.

In all my active NS life i've never seen the land rover ambulance used their sirens on public roads for "training purposes". Theres a directive about this, and yes we have to follow them rigidly.

The incident you saw was a fluke, admittedly. But if you see those SCDF ambulances are you going to judge them the same as the SAF ambulances based on the same thing the commando guys did?

Big big huge Red Cross sign on the side and fronts of the LR ambulances. Not just any normal LR defender.

I still find it hard to ignore the flashing lights though. Even the normal Auxilliary police with their flashing beacons can be mistaken to be the real SPF.

in the usa, cars will stop upon hearing the siren of the ambulance to let them pass. in s'pore, we do not stop for ambulance and instead, we tailgate and speed behind the ambulance...lol!

I belive you can take down the license numbers of vehicles who dont give way and report them to the TP. No need give face or chance to such people. Better still, ask veh commander video the offenders on his hand phone, let them jia lak jia lak.

i still give way of cos... but what i say is someone may misuse it and i feel cheated after saw them go into 7-11 from their ambulance...

there was another time at geyland also... but was pte ambulance... they stop at coffee shop then go in to buy food! or maybe they forget to turn off the ambulance light, or switch on by mistake... lot of people look at them when they q-up for food, with the ambulance light flashing...

so next time after i install a camera in my car, i hope that i can video down and upload for people to see...

If the siren is on...

Book those idiots blocking the gate....sigh extra duties...confinements.

For those on the road, those that refuse to give way, take down their number and pass to your MTO for action. Just pass to TP and all will kenna.

Training or no training....ambulance sound their siren only...be it SCDF, SAF or private....they will have the right of way.

What speed is the Rover going? At which lane?

I'm just wondering how the rover can overwrite the speed lmiit of 50kmh.

Why I asked so is I attended my Reservist back in Sept this year and I purposely asked one question on the speed limit of the Amb. Landrover.

He mentioned still 50kmh (w or w/o patients). In my mind, I was thinking - what the fish.

So back to your claim. If your rover is only moving at 50-60kmh. You will be on lane 2 or 3. Chances are not many people will give way. some might not even see you due to their big cargo size.

However if my guess are wrong and you're moving on lane 1. Then I really have to [furious][furious][furious][furious] those drivers.

Simple........ cos motorists are only taught to give way to civi ambulances and not military ambulances. Furthermore, some may think it's a drill....... [shakehead]
