I have a very close friend who is expecting her 1st child this August.

She asked me to give her comments on the names she listed down for her child and told me she having headache over it.

To me surprise its all english names(to me its the same as christian names).

My question is if u got a child, would u give him/her an english name?

What is ur reason?

Just have chinese name ... then use whatever english name in future they want lah.

Easier ... don't need to go lawyer change name etc.

Actually names with meaning can liao... Don't need your child to have fashion names... Next time the person you name your child after becomes a tyrant or mass murderer how? sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif

The meaning of my boiboi's name is "God-given laughter". nod.gif I hope that his arrival will bring more laughter to the family.

My family follows the same rule but it's whoever with the first born child of that generation that decides the rest. My grandfather named my dad who is the eldest of his generation and the rest followed his middle name. My dad named me (I am the eldest of my generation) and the rest of my cousins followed my middle name. Now I named my boiboi who will be the eldest of his generation, so I am waiting to see whether my cousins follow suit. Whew! tongue.gif

As much as some would say that other kid's names are pretentious, it's ultimately up to the parents lah... Just as long as the name is of some meaning to them can liao... Maybe Beckham means something to Pan LL and Huang SN?

Neutral Newbie

both chinese and english names, i voted.

anyway, even if u did not give the child english name, he/she will

give her own when becomes adult. why? simply b'cos society and

peers demand.

It's not chinese name hard to remember, but just simply not a universal

language....yet. when the child start to work in the society, he/she definitely

will require an identity for others to remember easily.

Just like many directors whose are still using chinese dialect names, most

are taking the 1st alphabets of each word to name them, like ST - Soon Tian, EB for Eng Boon, etc.

thumbsup.gif point u have there.

But if u r a small small fry would pple remember u by eg. PW Ong, SH Zheng etc? Still need a universal name. Its simply needed by society...

Ya lor. They think it is 'cool' but have they consider their child feeling. Mayb not that point of time, but if he grow up using this name, how he survive. Ppl will laugh at him. I will definitely laugh at him.

Wonder have they change his name? Beckham now on decline
