Garlic 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Share April 26, 2008 Taken from BITOG, plugs used for 120K km in a V6 Honda Accord. Those guys in there change copper plugs every 30K miles with gapping and cleaning intervals of 10K. ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 (edited) PZFRs are double platinum plugs for Hondas. My plugs look like this after 110k km. If not for the poor performance when using CNG, I would have kept them for a further 40k km. BTW, it is indeed strange that Honda uses extended nose cone plugs. Other people use normal BKR series but no.....they have to use the same plug with a longer nose cone. Anyway, got an acquaintence who went to the mechanic to change his Airwave plugs. Mechanic turned him away and asked him to come back when it is 100k km. Sure enough, Airwave uses PZFR plugs. Which brings me to my observations. Why in the world are people charging so much for Iridium plugs! Platinum is a more expensive precious metal. Don't get me started on silver plugs. Kb27 Supersonic April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 P = Platinum plugs. NGK produce for many oem including Hyundai, just a rebranding.
Yeobh 4th Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 Go to any workshop in Spore, you can actually easily get free spark plugs direct from their used plug collecting bin. Many car owners are just throwing thier hard earn money down the drain.Just sand blast and regap them they are ready for use.
Trex101 3rd Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 I think it got to do with its ignitability & performance with Plat plugs. Click link: http://ngk.com/glossary.asp?kw=Can+I+use+p...on?&manID=1&pt=
Genie47 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 If you stick in an MSD unit, you cannot use Ir or Pt plugs as well. Changed to normal BKR6R11 this morning. Gapped them to 1.0mm. It is better than the 0.9mm gapped BKR7EIX. However I cannot let the RPMs drop below 1600 or floor it hard.
Genie47 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 The ZFR series really have a longer ceramic cone. They can be used with engines requiring the BKR series and vice versa. Honda always like to be special from the ATF to their CVT fluid.

Garlic 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Author Share April 27, 2008 The sharp tip is almost botak already. Those guys there were when I told them how often we replace Pt or Ir plugs.
Garlic 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Author Share April 27, 2008 (edited) The local distributor of a popular fine tipped brand actually recommends replacing Ir plugs every 20K. Edited April 27, 2008 by Garlic
Genie47 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 (edited) Need to buy a small compressor unit to go with it. Make sure you don't wake the neighbors. Edited April 28, 2008 by Genie47
Genie47 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 Actually the sharp tip on top is the platinum. The area around it is blasted away by the plug firing! When I got them, it was like a nice round cylinder. After using is what you see in the pictures.
Ultramega 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 need to buy compressor + sand blaster, so it's hundreds or thousands of dollars? like that might as well buy fresh plugs.
Genie47 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 Yes but......if you can collect them, blast them and sell them at $1 a piece..... Lelong ah! Cheap sandblasted used plugs ah! Lelong ah! Cheaper than new plugs ah! Super cheap plugs!
Garlic 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Author Share April 28, 2008 Actually, were they designed to be abused to such a state? Read that some Honda V6 engines use 2 plugs per cylinder which makes it a total of 12 plugs per change.
Genie47 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 Yes they are meant to be abused. The problem is whether the copper core is still maintaining its conductive abilities. Anyway, having experienced CNG, petrol is really easier to ignite with a spark.
Yeobh 4th Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 There are companies in Thailand during the 80's right up to the 90's - they will ship 20ft container load of spark plugs direct from Japan. The used items are almost free of charge, they will have to provide labour and transport to collect them - shop will paid for the labour and transport charges base on per kg collected. Sales of spark plug clearner &testers from Champion were a hot items on great demand. ↡ Advertisement
