Genie47 1st Gear April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Why thank you. Actually search for "antifreeze". I differentiate the term antifreeze and coolant. Coolant is usually the already mixed stuff already circulating or premixed stuff like Toyota's Red LL Coolant. Antifreeze is the concentrated stuff that needs to be premixed. http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...1305452#1305452 Why you need 50% glycol content from the chemist perspective. Cheem stuff. http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...1426047#1426047
Genie47 1st Gear April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Hyundai apes Mitsubishi. Confirm silicate free. Even if you are driving Mercedes-Benz and have been using a low-silicate MB antifreeze, using the silicate-free Nissan antifreeze wouldn't harm the system. However using the MB antifreeze in your Hyundai that requires a silicate-free antifreeze will certainly harm the system.
Siyexcalibur Neutral Newbie April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Yes, I am using Nissan Green longlife too. Good value for money as it comes concentrated not premixed!!

Genie47 1st Gear April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Brownish sediment flush with several rounds of water or use a mix of 1:1 vinegar and water.

Siyexcalibur Neutral Newbie April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Why use engine flush for radiator? You can use radiator flush instead. Stick to Japanese coolant without silicates.

Nhyone 4th Gear April 29, 2008 Share April 29, 2008 Nowadays got so many different types of coolant meant for so many different types of cars. They cannot & sud not b mixed or changed around. When in doubt, check the car's owner manual. It will say what is acceptable for the car. If you just want to cool the engine, distilled water is enough. If you want protection, then mix a little anti-freeze. In our weather, 30% is sufficient.

Siyexcalibur Neutral Newbie April 30, 2008 Share April 30, 2008 Long life coolant is supposed to last very long (up to 80k), but the problem is when you change coolant the lazy way, not all the existing coolant will be drain out, so it is like half new and half old. My advice is to change at 40k intervals. You can estimate how much of the coolant is not in the radiator, by subtracting what you pour in from the book value. For example manual says 4 litres of coolant, but after draining, you only managed to pour in 2 litres, this means that there is 2 litres of the old coolant in the hose, engine jacket, water pump etc.
Siyexcalibur Neutral Newbie April 30, 2008 Share April 30, 2008 My advice is not to get American coolant, I remember they may be formulated differently and MAY contain silicates which are bad for Japanese gastkets. Also I had bad experience using American coolant, NTUC used to sell the TURBO brand coolant very cheaply and it says made in U.S.A, but the can of coolant already contains rust sediments. I tried twice and encountered the same problem, you noticed it when you pour slowly and at the end you see the sediments. I told my colleaque, he doesnt believe me at first, until he save the excess coolant into a plastic bottle, and he can see it too.
Genie47 1st Gear April 30, 2008 Share April 30, 2008 Depends. The only American antifreeze that is silicate-free is Prestone 5/150. Caltex LLC is based on this same formulation. Basically Dexcool.
Pisces69 6th Gear May 4, 2008 Share May 4, 2008 All the Japanese branded car antifreeze or premixed coolants are silicate free. I'm using Nissan's green. Cheapest of the whole bunch I can find. =================== Does your handbook call for silicate free coolant or silicate based coolant? Yours sud b the same as mine right? ↡ Advertisement
