Sosaria Twincharged May 11, 2008 Share May 11, 2008 Question is: do you desperately want to leave your present job, or not? If not, and you're prepared to wait for the next better offer, then go ahead and negotiate firmly. But if you're definitely looking to leave your present job, then it's unlikely that the HR will budge on their offer - sometimes they can sense it! Drive_carcar Clutched May 12, 2008 Share May 12, 2008 Before talking about the price, maybe you like to consider what the job is about, the company's reputation, and whether it is in line with your longer term career goal. A few hundred dollars difference is really no big deal. Trust me, even if they pay you $300 more, in a few months time, you'll not few the difference at all. But what counts is the long term. If the company you are going to join is the market leader, and is a great brand name, sometimes even a pay drop might be worthwhile, if it makes your resume more impressive in future. If the company is some ah kow ah pek brand name, even if the pay is $1k - $2k more, in the long term you might short change yourself. Why mortgage your future career for a short term benefit? Albeniz Turbocharged May 14, 2008 Share May 14, 2008 (edited) I had my second interview (with the same company) about one week ago. That company requires 2 interviews as its standard hiring procedure. How long do I have to wait to check the outcome? Albeniz Turbocharged May 14, 2008 Share May 14, 2008 Is one week (after the second interview) a reasonable time frame to check the outcome with HR? How long did they took to reply after your final interview?
Magfocus 5th Gear May 14, 2008 Share May 14, 2008 Have to agree totally. If its a brand name, a drop might even be worthwhile.
Octopus 3rd Gear May 14, 2008 Share May 14, 2008 Hi everyone, I just received a job offer. The new company gave me an increment but it's $300 lesser than expected. What's the best way of asking for more? I will be negotiating with a HR lady who sounds lao jiao so need some advise! Any body have experience in salary negotiation? Please share. Thanks! I believe you should have a probation period, right? Maybe can try to negotiate the company giving you that remaining $300 monthly upon confirmation of the job? Unltd 5th Gear May 14, 2008 Share May 14, 2008 When I took up my first job, I was given higher then what I expected. Maybe thats cause I was offered 3 jobs at a go... Anyways, I think you can nego with the HR lady to state in the contact that adjustment after confirmation to be higher then what you initially expected. This is a win-win, they can save the $300 for the first few months to access you. You can in turn rake in more after you are confirmed, but make sure that contract states HIGHER then your expectation after you are confirmed. Otherwise you lugi! Ultramega 1st Gear May 14, 2008 Author Share May 14, 2008 I got reply within a week of the 1st interview that I was one of those shortlisted. This came from the hiring manager and not HR. But the 2nd interview was 3 months later. Abt 3 days after the 2nd one, i had a 3rd interview conducted over the phone by a HR manager. Another 3 days later the offer came. Good luck for your interview, bro!
Ultramega 1st Gear May 14, 2008 Author Share May 14, 2008 No, i've got no probation period. Ang Mo companies don't practice that, i think. Didn't have probation when i joined my previous company too (also ang mo company).
