Taohuaychui Neutral Newbie June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 u notice those actress/actors go for panerai more than rolex. panerai as mentioned more ex and probably higher class in that sense. i beg to differ.. Rolex is definately "higher class" than PAMs. in terms of movements, history, accuracy or even the stainless steel grade used. [/reply] panerai has a very distinguished history too, i'm not going to dwell on which got higher class. but i would rather be seen wearing a panerai than a rolex. no disrespect to rolex, i personally think it's not worth the kind of money you are paying for, definitely not for the movement. for similar price range, zenith or entry level Jaeger Lecoultre will be much much better options. rolex daytona used to house zenith's el primero movements, until about slightly less than 10yrs ago where they start to use their own movements. but if you buy a zenith with this legendary movement, it will cost a lot less. how come? cos pple have this wrong impression about rolex watches' quality. [/reply] worth or not worth, its subjective la. if you like it, its worth it. :) about Rolex being "higher class", maybe i can reconstrue what i meant. I mean generally, Rolex as a brand name is more prestigious and recognised as compared to Panerai, which only became popular in the last few years. [/reply] worth it or not, if you are serious about watches, is not subjective at all. go talk to any serious collectors, i can bet very few (maybe 1 in 50) would consider collecting rolexes. on the other hand, panerai do attract some serious collectors. again, not implying which is more high class but rolex definitely is not worth the money. ↡ Advertisement
Skylander Neutral Newbie June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 how about the brand richard mille or urwerkz (should be this spelling)? I believe felipe massa wore richard mille. average price of richard mille is about $100K and should be at one of the top brands available. the tourbillon chronograph looks nice. http://www.thefinestwatches.com/index.cfm/...hard_Mille.html but no $$ to buy . Price of a 4-room flat.
Taohuaychui Neutral Newbie June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 mate, average price of a richard mille is definitely not 100k.
Genie47 1st Gear June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 You can get this snob appeal cheaply and I don't mean replicas. Octo has a good following from the poor man due to this model found in PMWC. USD159. Has that ancient look. Dunno why the PMWC fella calls it the "cushion case theme". Octo is one of those Swiss brands that was almost dead and then ressurrected by some HKer. Taohuaychui Neutral Newbie June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 sorry, i wasn't clear, it's less than that. i can't really comment if it is better than patek in terms of quality and design cos i dont know much about this brand. but i dont think so cos i think patek still one of the best in the world. Darth_mel 1st Gear June 3, 2008 Share June 3, 2008 (edited) Problem with Swiss watches is that prices go up about 10% every year, just like our pappy dogs salaries which are worse...without any tangible improvement whatsoever. Even 2nd-hand (no pun intended) watches aren't cheap nowadays. Edited June 3, 2008 by Darth_mel

Theoldjaffa Hypersonic June 4, 2008 Share June 4, 2008 (edited) ooh .. which Ball watch ? the Engineer Master Diver.. is good pcs.. a class by itself.. :) i was looking at that too, but decided on the Engineer Hydrocarbon Magnate instead http://www.ballwatchusa.com/collection/Eng...agnateSAJBK.asp, since it has been phased out and if i delay now, i may not be able to get it in future. Urwerk is unique, and its a relatively new brand, with an interesting way of making its movements. somehow i feel its more purist with its watches as compared to the more "commercial" luxury brands.
