Neutral Newbie

I would have kept my copen if i had a 2nd car to drive around in for work and stuff.

Those who have never driven a cabrio b4 would talk about all the impracticalites and stuff.

Envy is a scary thing.

Pls help, I am a "virgin" car owner, so I dunno what to expect, but based on this list.

I called the seller to ask about the paper value, was informed that its 15k+

1) Installment - dependent on loan amount - will loan 35k, 5 yr loan

2) Insurance - you already have a rough guide - should be less than 1.5k I hope

3) Parking - free at office and at home

4) ERP - my roads dun lead to ERP, so I shud not face this often, I estimate less than $50 a mth

5) Petrol - I get about 10+ to 13+km/l on a Copen - so translate to how much for light driving, just drive to work and home, maybe 2 or 3 times a week to town for errands

6) Road tax - this is dirt cheap

7) Maintenance - pls advise again what to expect?

8) Fines

9) Miscellaneous expenditure/indulges - dun intend to mod this car, I have many other vices to spend my $$ on. As long car looks cute, can move me from pt A to pt B, I'm a happy girl.

If your paper value 3 yrs later is 15k+, you can use a base of around 18k to calculate its minimum worth 3 years later.

Insurance from the Copen is around 900++ @ 50% NCD.

Take your purchase price less 18k and divide it by the 3, thats your depreciation per year.

Your petrol costs should be less than $100/mth.

For maintenance wise, just do the basics (engine oil, filter, transmission fluids, belts as and when necessary). If any part shows symptoms of wearing out, then replace that part. No need to go and pay for workshops 100,000 point checks.

Dollars & cents should only be applicable for bread and butter cars that are used solely for transport. If talking about depreciation, 2nd hand china cars should have the least. Offer about 1 - 1.5k above paper and you should secure it. Maintenance/reliability is another story.

Car ownership shouldn't be based on stretching to the limits of affordability. If dollars & cents are an issue, stick to public transport or purchase a bread & butter car if necessary.

Buy something you like, something that you enjoy driving and can live with everyday. You will tend to keep it longer and in good condition as opposed to an "economical" item that you will grow weary of in a short while.

Just checked the insurance, its 2.3k.. thats pretty high!

Can my hubby get this car and with NCD 50%, applied on both cars?

Lancer and Copen?

Both car can share the NCD of 50%?

He is 35

He can apply to transfer over some of the NCD. Both cars will gain another 10% after a fiscal year.

I am unsure of paper value, is this the same as OMV?

I have checked this,

OMV $15,352

Is this the scrap value I get back after I scrap the car at 10YO?

If I drive 3 yrs, and sell away, do I still use the same formula to count depreciation as you state above?

I spoke to hubby , so he may take up the copen insurance with his 50% NCD, and I take over his sedan insurance at 0% NCD

You just need to key in owners details & car no. to check.

https://vrl.lta.gov.sg/lta/vrl/action/pubfu...bateBeforeDeReg

You can experiment using your hubby's details to find out.

Attached is a paper value sample. Paper value is a composition of COE & OMV (PARF).

Don't bother transferring all 50% to the 'new' car. Transfer around 30-40%. Both cars will gain 10% each after 1 year for a combined total of 20%.
