Nephilim 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 (edited) Last week, I installed a chassis bar (it's from Cusco and made for my vehicle model) to the front of my undercarriage (see attached pic below). It was fine when I left the workshop but by the 3rd day I can hear intermittent "tok tok" sound when I turn very slowly (<10km/h). When back to the workshop and they told me it's the bar doing its job. But nonetheless they took it out and reinstalled again and everything was fine until ... yes you've guessed it ... the third day when the "tok tok" sound returns. Anyone has the same experience? Is this normal? It's just a little annoying whenever I'm parking. Edited September 5, 2008 by Nephilim ↡ Advertisement
Galantspeedz Turbocharged September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 It happened once to me. At that time no bars installed. My mech check and realised that it is because a brake hose was loose, so when turning, the tyre rub against the brake hose thus the sound. They just use a cable tie to contain the brake hose. Jack up the car and check.
Kangadrool Supersonic September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 Is there sufficient clearance between bar and exhaust pipe? Could be the exhaust hitting the bar.

Osiris 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 I installed a lower tie bar to my ride. the tok tok tok sound comes from the installation becoming loose. have to tighten it. tighten very tight liao, after a while come back. so irritating till i gave up and took it out and sold it off. Galantspeedz Turbocharged September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 So in this case, it is more of inferior production? I installed, front and rear H-brace and front and rear anti-roll bar... no such thing leh...
Nephilim 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Author Share September 5, 2008 Unlikely to be the brake hose (which are stock). Sound was gone (temporary) after they took out and reinstalled the bar. We're all pretty sure it's the bar.
Nephilim 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Author Share September 5, 2008 Yes there's sufficient clearance. The only points touching the chassis are the joints with the screws.
Galantspeedz Turbocharged September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 Then it may be as what orisis said. Ask them to change new bar for you..... but i think unlikely they will do that
Nephilim 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Author Share September 5, 2008 So we might be in the same boat then. My bar didn't come with anything and the workshop installed it with just the screws (no washers). Asked them to put washers but they didn't have and said it should come with it. Do you think washers might help?
Osiris 1st Gear September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 mine from Alutec. some other stream owners also have this problem. inferior pdt? likely...

Watwheels Supersonic September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 When there is flexing, the bolts where the bar are secured are bound to come loose. Unless the bolt is secured by a lock nut on the other end of the bolt or some pin to prevent the bolt from unscrewing itself(due to flexing), your problem will never be solved. Ck77 Neutral Newbie September 11, 2008 Share September 11, 2008 I think should be looses and that make vibration. Checking can finding what is wrong is important The last time I hear fuuny sound in my car was that the person left a tools near my engine.
Ep80_dekit Neutral Newbie September 14, 2008 Share September 14, 2008 anyway, could be exhaust hitting the bar. even got enough clearance, the exhaust has some flex, so it could be hitting it. ↡ Advertisement
