Hi All,

 

Newbie here. Just got my new Mondeo, and I have a question for those who are driving or had tested one. Does your car vibrates while idling (engaged in gear)? And when I say vibrate, I mean that your rear mirror image is shaky, able to feel the vibration from the dashboard and steering wheel, and also able to feel from the passenger seat as well. 

 

The vibration disappears the moment I'm driving, or when I'm in neutral/parking (even with engine on). What could be the possible problem? My car is about a month old only.

that's bad for a new car

 

usually vibration while idling points to either gearbox or engine mount?

 

neither of which should be happening for new car.

My point exactly. It wasn't like this during the test drive. So was wondering if its about the engine breaking in, or that I've gotten a lemon. 

 

Under such circumstances, what can I do besides sending it back to the AD for diagnostics? Also, is it common for new cars to come in with certain mileage done (e.g. around 20km)? The reason they gave me was that they were doing some checking and tuning to make sure the car is in perfect condition before handling it over to the owner. Just wanted to check if this was the case for all new cars.

20km is quite OK when recieving new car because it may be fitted with some after market stuff like sunx or stereo or even customised carpet and even from port warehouse to your Agent 

 

I had a Mondeo (2L- 11 years back but it never vibrated - until mirror vibrate-  like the way you mentioned) just send to the Agent and ask the SE why this happens and he malu malu will surely want to look into it too since its brand new ; only thing is time will be wasted going up and down initially

 

Is yours the 1.5L or 2L model ?? Did you test drive which one ??

20-50km is normal cuz sometimes they will bring your car to install some gadget etc. not everything is factory fitted.

 

Go back to AD to bang table. sounds like a lemon. when collect the car, you never questioned the SE?

Actually when we collect car so many things to check and see until sometimes miss out the most important things at times..... I left my house keys once when I collected my car..... nowadays collect new car and the documents that come in like one big file of so many things until blurr

(actually i left my house keys in the old car when i surrendered it to them at same time of collecting new car)

Thought it was the norm for new cars, so decided to observe few days more.

Like this I also must check my ride...... i never realised it (for car engines)  but I know my van mirror shakes but anyway its a diesel engine and its just momentarily and i just get used to it. Just check with your SE and ask him which model you test drove (at least it clears your doubts )

Like this I also must check my ride...... i never realised it (for car engines)  but I know my van mirror shakes but anyway its a diesel engine and its just momentarily and i just get used to it. Just check with your SE and ask him which model you test drove (at least it clears your doubts )

Thanks for your advice. My previous car (3 series) doesn't have this problem, despite driving it till its 9th year. So was surprised when I experienced this for my new car. Apparently I am not the only owner to experience this issue. AD says will need to check with the factory before they are able to reply.

Sometimes I have mild vibration on the sunglasses holder plastic piece, but for most part I only feel vibrations from the center console when in D. I idle in neutral anyway, so for most part it's a moot point.

 

Frankly it's quite unlikely to me, that a car will transmit zero vibrations, especially since you are leaving the engine connected to the transmission.

 

It could be different with your 1.5L model though. I am not experiencing something so severe.

No need to bang table. Just tell them nicely. They will fix it. Likely to be the case of engine or gearbox mount issue.

The 2.0L engine there is a fairly strong puller, but fuel consumption isn't really on the best list, at least from what I've heard about it. Though as a Mondeo with hydraulic steering, the ride and handling are known to be great.

 

The grille you mention, it looks like the owner swapped to the sports mesh grille. The usual grille has slats instead.

 

if you're looking for a practical and value for money large saloon I don't think you can go wrong with a Mondeo. Servicing at Regent isn't very cheap though. And the old car's head unit is kind of outdated

Steering is light, it's electrically assisted rather than hydraulic. It's still reasonably weighted at speed, feedback is down versus the old Mondeo, but steering accuracy and agility is still top notch for the class.

It can feel heavy at times, but I suspect this is the lane keeping system in effect, which is not a concern for potential buyers of the 1.5L.

The steering is actually quite light for me. More responsive and definitely lighter than my previous ride. The one thing I don't quite like though is the height of the seat vs the cabin roof. My head is barely brushing the roof each time I'm driving, but I guess that's cause I'm about 1.83m tall.
