When to change sparkplugs

'IK' series have a Iridium 0.4mm diameter center tip electrode and a normal alloy ground/side electrode.

 

'SK' series have a Iridium 0.7mm diameter center tip electrode and a Platinium coated ground/side electrode, that's why it can last much longer.

 

A standard copper plugs will have a 2.5mm diameter center tip electrode.

Thinking to change sparkplugs on coming 25K servicing. What is the best time (eg. 20K or 30k) to get our sparkplugs replaced.

 

save the resources and recycle the old sparkplugs... learn how to do gapping for your old sparkplug. Invest $10 on 1 set of gapping tools and another $10 on a sparkplug oppener.... 1 set of copper sparkplug will easily last 100k km. The gapping should be done ideally every 20k km, its eazy as 1,2,3.... just search around google and you can find out how to DIY.

 

Bro, for info, normally where to buy the gapping tools? autobacs? thanks

Ya juz brought spark plug @ authorised dealer @ verasammy rd only $15 - 4pcs. THey told me next change 20K. Cheap & Good

I have a set of used Denso Iridium IK16 spark plugs, clocked 1200km before removing from my previous ride. Is it advisable to install into my new ride? The spark plugs appearance wise dun look like "new".

Depends if it's suitable for your current ride. Perhaps you can advice what car model/yr you are driving now.

It still can be used, just be sure not to overtighten them

If your i30 engine are G4EC2, then yes your previous IK16 still can be use.

do u know where i can find the plug gap distance for lancer CS3? Cant seem to find on google.

Same here.

 

I too prefer to use the normal copper plugs. Cheap & good plus I get a fresh set every 20k km.

 

Using those ex plugs r good if u r in a place where it is difficult to get spark plugs or change them.

 

In SG, almost every spare parts shop has plugs. But I do prefer to use those Made In Japan plugs as I find the quality is better & can really last 20K km without any noticeable drop in power up to 20K km even.

 

The worst plugs I tried was the Made IN Msia type. I did try the Indo & Thai plugs & found them quite good also.

 

I am now trying the Made In Korea plugs on my Optra but intend to change to the Japan plugs at the next change.

The main problem I feel with re-gaping plugs is the crushable washer might not give such a good seal if the plugs r screwed in again.

 

Plugs r cheap & easily available. I just replace at 20K km for peace of mind. I have seen plugs leaking around the ceramic joint even. Definitely not good for the engine.
