Sofarsogood Clutched November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 How often do we just change 2 of the tyres? I guessed in Singapore's context, most people swapped all 4 at each change. http://www.michelinman.com/tire-care/tire-...eartire-change/ ↡ Advertisement
Hamburger Hypersonic November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 gd link bro...while many will put it to e front due to less prone to understeer (FWD car), they ve 4gotten its in e wet tat its more dangerous
Civic6656 1st Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 Think mounting new tire to front or rear also depends if your car is RWD or FWD type.
Nkps 1st Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 if your car is front wheel drive then put front lor, if rear wheel drive then put rear lor, if all wheel drive, put one front and one back lor
Sofarsogood Clutched November 24, 2008 Author Share November 24, 2008 Noted. I also think our roads are similar to those in the video during the monsoon season.
Hamburger Hypersonic November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 pt to take note from the video clip is: try to reduce hydroplanning at e rear wheels. Don tink it matters whether its FWD or RWD. Its wet condition n not dry one tat we r stressing here.
Robin 4th Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 me. i just changed my front pair
Sky61 1st Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 that depends on whether u r running staggered tyre profiles..if u r,then u will change 2 and not 4 at one time. cos for cars on same tyre profiles, they would tend to do tyre rotation,so all tyres wear out evenly n change all four when weared out. as for staggered tyre profile guys, then its front two will wear out first due to steering inputs. anyway staggered tyre profiles are for RWD vehicles.. Falc 3rd Gear November 24, 2008 Share November 24, 2008 I read somewhere that it's better to put the pair of new tyres at the back for FWD cars, contrary to popular belief. This is becoz IIRC putting the new pair at the front may induce oversteer, hence dangerous. Of coz best is to change all 4.
Chromas 1st Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 For FWD cars (ie. most of the cars in SG), bring the older ones to the rear and put fresh tires on the front. This provides the best amount of front grip for steering work and also for acceleration. The same actually applies to RWD cars due to the steering bit. However, because RWD cars require the rear wheels for traction and acceleration, good rear tires are essential too.

Boyboy 1st Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 that's only for track or motorsports. for daily driving, understeer is much more preferable to oversteer. understeer is relatively easier to control or recover from. oversteer, spin, flip and burn even on the track, i found that because of this principle, i got my best lap times with crap tyres in front, and better tyres at the rear. when the tyres were the other way, i dare not push the limit cos they would suddenly break traction and
Hamburger Hypersonic November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 i guess u r referring to dry condition???
Chromas 1st Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 I used to have loads of fun in the wet with crappy tires in the rear. Fun around U-turns
Chromas 1st Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 Wet or dry, we need good tires for grip. Of course, it'd be a little more fun in the wet at times
Chromas 1st Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 Very true. Most people don't know how to handle oversteer and the car just fishtails all over the track. Still haven't gone to track with my red baby yet, but I'd like to see what happens on the long corner when I floor it down on 3rd gear at 110km/h
Powerhouse Clutched November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 Bro, are those cars "RWD" or "FWD"? If its "FWD", so I guess its adviseable to install the new tyres at the rear?
Roberttan 5th Gear November 25, 2008 Share November 25, 2008 i am fully agreed with you, what we are sharing here is for general public,so is mianly for daily driving.(track or M/sport may not appllied ) Since Michelin tyre company had expressed the concerned and important about this issue and clearly informed the general public and proved it to you,so why not we take the advice? . But i thing do remember it still depend on your the other 2 old tyre condition,it may not suitable to push forward to front such as irregular wear(will cause loud tyre noise/vibration) ,also re-balance them before going to front forget to remind those running on 2 big 2 small or special setup car cannot do this ↡ Advertisement
