I hate KPE

If not for convenient, non-stop travel from East to North-East, I would rather use the normal road to North-eastern area. There r so many camera in the tunnel. Yes, it's for safety reason and speed regulating reason as well. But it makes one too paranoid driving thru so many speed camera. u have to be concious of you speed at all times and that makes u feel sleepy.

have to check speedometer all the time and that's taken so many seconds of ur attention off the road, doesn't that means road hazard?

 

70km/h is way to slow for an expressway...normal main road already designated 70km/h, so if this is an expressway, y classified its speed limit as a normal road? or rather dun call it KPE, might as well change it to KPR (Kallang- PayaLebar Road)

 

At night, when traffic is lesser, I would much prefer traveling on a normal road (Fort Rd, mountbatten Rd, Sims Ave, PIE, Paya Lebar Rd, Airport Rd, Hougang Ave2, Tampines Road, TPE, Punggol) rather than driving in a "never ending" tunnel with full of conciousness on the speed cam all ard you.

 

Having said that, this is my personal preference.

Don't really used it often but I find even at that speed my travelling time is shorter and my fc improved a lot.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm quite certain that the KPE has lesser accidents per vehicle than the CTE. If safety comes first, then i certainly think the speed cameras have done its job. If the CTE had that many cameras too, i'm certain the CTE will have less jams caused by accidents.

Actually I kinda like it. No hogging by the LGVs and tfc very smooth. Only the roads quite bumpy.

 

My car have criuse control, set it to 75kmh and just steer.

 

Though have to agree kinda troublesome to drive w/o criuse control when taking missus car.

i think 70km/h on KPE still alright lar....

 

cos there were many accident in tunnel expressway/highways in other countries....

 

as u noe tat singapore is a "kiasu" country, so safety in KPE has to be very important....

Advantages of driving at 70.

1. Rather drive at 70 than be bogged by jams caused by speeding related accidents

2. Less tail-gaters as impatient cars behind you knoe u and them cannot legally go above 70

3. Save Fuel

 

Disadvantages

1. When you have a bad stomach-ache.

Good lar,every car going on same speed,thus a peaceful drive. But i agree its . My observation,as soon they come out from the tunnel,hell break loose.

No problem for me driving at 70km/h. One has to agree that KPE indeed has less accidents than CTE tunnel. No prize for guessing what is the reason.

anyway, here's the official reply why is limited to a girly 70km/h:

 

"I refer to the letters "Revised speed limit way too low on Nicoll Highway and KPE" (Today, 5 November) from Mr Ong Yong Keat and "Revise speed limits for sake of safety" (Today, 6 November) from Mr Steve Kesmond Ngo and their suggestions to raise the speed limits of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and Nicoll Highway.

 

As suggested by Mr Ong, the speed limits are set to lower the risk of traffic accidents. The 70km/h speed limit is set for the KPE because at this speed, motorists can drive safely and traffic flow is still smooth. This will be especially important when the full tunnel totalling 9 km is open. Please note too that it is not an uncommon practice for speed limits to be lower in a long road tunnel as compared to the surface roads. In Europe, the Mont Blanc tunnel which spans across Alps, has a speed limit that ranges from 50km/h to 70km/h.

 

To Mr Ngo's reference to Nicoll Highway, though it is a relatively straight stretch of road, it is not an expressway. Pedestrians walk along its footpaths, buses stop along it and vehicles may slow down or turn at various exits and entry points along the road. A 70km/h speed limit gives motorists ample time to react to any pedestrian or vehicular activity along the stretch.

 

Safety on all of our roads remains our prime consideration, and so we would like to urge all motorists to keep to the speed limits.

i love the KPE for all the reasons you hate it : )

would it help if they rename the KPE, KPR (kallang paya lebar road)?

 

the 70 speed limits and cams help maintain lane discipline, which is one of the most annoying things abt driving in singapore.

 

also the KPE has many sharp bends, if a car broke down at one of the bends, and you are going at 110, will probably be quite tragic.

wha lan, KPE is the best road to travel and it is so comfortable with the bumpy feeling.

 

also a way to train your foot if you want to control your petrol expenses.

 

what i hate most is driver who knowing KPE is 70km/h, and still can hog lane 1 at 60km/h.

i have tested out 74 to 76km/h is fine, probably my speedometer is not accurate after using a 17inch, but once awhile, dont accelerate, let the wheel slow down, then accelerate to 74km/h and u will very fast reach the other end.
