Hamtaroo Neutral Newbie February 2, 2009 Share February 2, 2009 Hi Guys and Gals, I am wondering can we deregister our car (to get back high COE we paid (e.g mine is $14K) in cash) then bid for another COE now to re-register (since COE is low abt 2-3K). In that way we can get back cash and extend the use for car for another 10yrs Please feedback is this possible ↡ Advertisement
Nohnemwan 1st Gear February 2, 2009 Share February 2, 2009 Nice try. The answer is No. A previously deregistered car may not be re-registered again.

Anyway please do your research first before asking here. Prevents embarrassment like this.

Leepee 1st Gear February 3, 2009 Share February 3, 2009 The only time this was done was during the $100k COE period. Many dealers are stuck with $100k COE. Cleverly they register a super cheap Honda Cub with the COE, and deregister it immediately the next day to get back the $100k from gov! Losing only $1000(cost of the cub) But then the LTA changed the rule immediately, the CatE COE value will now reflect the lower of the Category! (this was the start of confusion for many,up till today, about the value of Open Cat COE) So you see.....you can cheat LTA once...and immediatly they will cover the loop-hole the next month! If you have found a loop-hole.....rest assured it will be covered once you announce it to everyone! Donut Supercharged February 3, 2009 Share February 3, 2009 one way to do it.... deregister to get back your COE $$ and export/"sell" the car to msia to undertable dealers/sellers..... you get the $$, the msia dealer gets the car and just snap on a msia number plate on it...... Nohnemwan 1st Gear February 3, 2009 Share February 3, 2009 You are not comparing the same loophole with the one that TS hopes to find. Till this day, anyone can register and immediately de-register any vehicle, just to recover the cost of the COE. Even someone like you can do it. However, after claiming back the COE balance, TS wants to then re-register the previously deregistered vehicle. Do you understand what he is trying to do? Of course there is no such loophole. The loophole that TS hopes to find is very very different from the use-high-COE-to-register-Honda-Cub trick. ↡ Advertisement
