Cjgoh Neutral Newbie April 19, 2009 Share April 19, 2009 i dont mind the parking part..but i don't want (2) to happen.. In my opinion, I am afraid no.2 will surely happen. Because if motorists can't regulate themselves during peak periods, network of computers will. This will cut down congestions or bottlenecks, and help those who can't seem to stick to one lane, stay in one lane. And for those who can't read traffic well, the computers will do it. Slow moving, but safe, and will still get you there. No more Road Rage too.. ↡ Advertisement

Cjgoh Neutral Newbie April 19, 2009 Share April 19, 2009 in that case..then the speed limit can be increased because computer will basically control everything.. Well, we can assume that the Traffic Grid System should be programmed to monitor desnity of traffic and will hence adjust speed limits based on traffic flow in certain strecthes or locations along the expressways. This is very possible. But this will not be during our lifetime... and likely all or most cars will be hybrids, or auto trans for non hybrids. No more Manuals Trans, or at least there might be semi autos or semi manuals. This way, can also control Speed Maniacs and those Boy Racers... furthermore, Hit and Run cases will be a thing of the past... built-in impact analysers will assess WHAT was hit by car, and if it detects living tissue/cells, IMMOBILIZER kicks in - engine haults. Of course driver may run, but the biometric chip which allows him to start the car will make him a wanted man.

Quantum 5th Gear April 20, 2009 Author Share April 20, 2009 Still feel driving is very fun, even after being caught in countless jams and heavy traffic, both in Hong Kong and Singapore. People told me I'm crazy to have bought a manual car in HK, but with the terrain I enjoy it and have never regretted it - not even in traffic jams facing upslope. Maybe I am a indeed a little crazy, because I am one who will purposely take rural country or mountain roads home instead of the highways, because I love the ups and downs, twists and turns and I know I won't feel sleepy even if I'm dead tired. These rural roads are really enjoyable; although one cannot and should not attain a high speed on them, they are relatively clear, traffic is light and there are few traffic lights. While back in Singapore for holiday, I usually rent a car to take my family around - my grandparents especially love it and the great times we enjoy together make any slight stress from the road conditions all worth it. I also rented lorries a couple of times - in fact the most enjoyable part of my recent holiday back home was when I rented a 14 foot lorry and fetched friends and family (at different times) around, exploring all the far, "ulu" places. The enjoyment was far greater than usual maybe because of the lorry's big, straight windscreen and clear view - all the better for "sightseeing"! So overall there might have been times where I cursed to myself at traffic conditions or other drivers' reckless actions, felt very tired and aching all over after a hard day, experienced problems with the car and had to bring it to the workshop and wait for it to be fixed (thankfully nothing but usual wear and tear), paid through my nose for parking, but I still thoroughly enjoy driving and think I'll certainly enjoy it for as long as I can drive. Can class 3 license drive 14 foot lorry ? where can rent lorry and what is the price?

Billcoke 2nd Gear April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 (edited) depends on the car.. some car can get extremely boring after a short period.. some cars just make you want to find chance to drive ard.. Yes agree, cars with good handling is critical to me. Favourite place to test handling like MSCP, Mt Pleasant Road, Old Upper Thomson Road. etc. But never enjoy traffic jams Edited April 20, 2009 by Billcoke

Lab4games 1st Gear April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 fun in driving diesel van and lorries and blowing black smoke at those irritating drivers that tailgate nonstop. when ur vehicle is big, heavy, built using real thick metal, old and low value, then that's where the fun starts..because there r too many bad drivers that spoils driving here. Davetan86 Neutral Newbie April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 Driving is a really fun sports for me. but not in singapore as our country is too small. Hermit 1st Gear April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 Thanks, TS for bringing up this topic.. And based on this question, I cruised from Jurong to Punggol (or issit Ponggol ) on the 2nd Lane at 90km/h via KJE>BKE>SLE>TPE. As I exited at the slip road, I turned to my OC and told her that I've not had such an enjoyable drive in a while.. Guess the fast pace of work/ life here does take a toll on quality of drive, and a bonus if selfish drivers were taken out of the equation. My 2-bytes worth. Drive_carcar Clutched April 20, 2009 Share April 20, 2009 Manual is fun, auto is bored At the extreme risk of becoming a flaime bait... I'm gonna standby you and agree wholeheartedly. Manual is real driving. Auto is no diff from driving a golf buggy. There is nothing more engaging then driving manual, even in heavy traffic situations. And there's a slight added advantage of being faster when compared to it's auto counterpart... i.e. a Manual Civic of the same cc, compared to the Auto version, the manual do pick up faster.
