Picanto 3rd Gear July 23, 2009 Author Share July 23, 2009 Money is money i guess but 20 bucks is not tat much really sadly getting the coupon is pain. i think its due to security issue that they limit the type and number of places that sell opc coupons. if 7-11/cheers also sell, then someone might rob the store of the coupons. ↡ Advertisement
Rickster 5th Gear July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 to be fair to the opc, i think we should not be think about if u r parking using coupon, do u ...??? u cheat, be prepared to face the charges if caught. mayb garment shld invest in system similar to carpark erp for opc cars. once car moves during off opc hrs, charge accordingly loh.. btw, i am not an opc.. Thats a good idea... meaning every OPC will have some sort of GPS module installed in the IU, the moment the car is detected moving say 100m or more during peak hrs, juz charge accordingly lor. Well the OPC scheme is going to be phased out with all cars having something similar, but we're still a lil while away. Someone else here said that they were doing some trials for this via OPCs, so I called LTA to ask if I could opt in, but they had no info on any such trial

Osiris 1st Gear July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 yes. harder to cheat. but maybe someone will find a loophole around the electronic gadget? have a switch for power to the GPS module? Switch off when driving during restricted hours. No GPS unit to detect = not moving/using? GPS reception in area with lots of tall buildings or under flyover very bad unless they pump in to have relay station. In anycase, if using GPS, everyone will pray North Korean shoot down all the GPS sats. Free use!
Sabian Turbocharged July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 Follow up question then...is it right or wrong to cheat then? I drive opc myself but $20 gained in exchange for criminal record plus paying back close to 50% of the 17k rebate is very lousy odds (some pple not gd at calculating odds). Those who get caught deserve it. Those who are forgetful/ cannot tear opc coupon (only 3 big fxxking lobangs) properly (ie: poor motor skills), pls stick to black plate. I think it is wrong but what abt the bugger who tears off the parking coupon later by 10 mins or use 1 purple coupon for 1 hr? Shouldn't there be a reaction to that? Sabian Turbocharged July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 we got many comments and no flame wars. thats good. but do you think charging them $20 is a bit expensive? or should it be cheaper? Put it this way. What if OPC is strictly for use during OP hours ONLY? No exceptions. Then view the "$20 as a right to use the car for a day outside OPC hours" in that light. Kman08 3rd Gear July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 I agree totally.. as an OPC driver myself, gettin the coupon is really a pain in the ass! Only singpost outlets sells it and gotta queue like siao. Many times, they r out of OPC coupons also! Well from wat i hear there may be adjustments but u know by the time they decide and impliment refine zzzzzzzz... Shouldn't there be a reaction to that? my parking coupon reaction is that its not really serious as such people do not gain from govt rebates. its different for opc case, as they have $17000 off the price and $800 off road tax. their wrong is betraying the trust the govt has on them. one is supposed to take the rebates and obseve the timing. (it does not exist to me) but i agree, if u sign for opc rebate, stick to the damn timing, i prefer it if they pay 50% rebate if they got caught 1st time. 2nd time: lose the ride and get 1 day jail time. But that is just me, though if I see some opc driving w/o coupon, i will not bat an eyelid. That is the TP's / LTA's job.
Gnoikj Neutral Newbie July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 TP and LTA are obviously sleeping on the job then...else its the system that makes it so easy to cheat... Everything has a price, and I agree with you...those who cheat should be made to pay...although I know of 1 particular acquaintance who proudly brags about never being caught cheating at OPC coupon for the past 5 yrs of driving...I'm still waiting for some kind of justice to take out this thrash who benefits at others' expense. Bismarck Turbocharged July 23, 2009 Share July 23, 2009 I know! Lets make this whole thing more complicated. If the OPC driver cheated once before(regardless with the amount of fine), his car plate colour instead of red shall change to green(or whatever colour) to serve as a reminder for us and TP to look for and to disgrace such OPC cheats!
