5 day detention!!! Isn't it a very very very minor thing???? Cannot cut hair....Cannot eat this eat that....Cannot wear shoe...Cannot touch grass....Isn't this part and parcel of SAF??? What's the big deal??? How come this one is in the news??? Trying to create some religion issues ???

Already informed him to cut his hair, -1 point.

Food is catered for the soldiers and by not eating the food is wasting the food, -1 point.

Understand it's part of his religion.

But hey, you are in Singapore. Everyone must be equal.

As for the Sikhs part, I personally feel that it is also unacceptable.

All soldiers must cut their hair short and neat.

Jehovah witness members are treated with a cell term. Thus, all other religions cannot be excluded.

Just my two cents worth.

i believe to be charged to DB mus be bery extreme case.

my time also got one guy super problematic, always late, trouble maker, steal things, AWOL but i saw how the unit somehow gave him chances over n over again, they even ask him parents down to camp as the OC wanted to know his problem,

got once i was nite duty and the book in time for nites off was 2259, the fella only came in at 1am,

i ask for his reason, he jus kept quiet, to me it seems like he got problem adhering to instruction

it was until the end when all resolutions are exhausted that he was given the charge form and handcuffs

SAF can be c--k sometimes but there is still compassion and chances somewhere

Spore is such a small county and low birthday, to cover up is harder than you can imagine. that is why even this cut hair issue, been publish as to openly let all to know

cover up is easy. So much incidents are covered up everyday. Only incidents that serve as a "warning" to the citizens like us are printed and circulated so that we may become aware of such issues.

But just to point out that in Indian Army, there are Sikh regiments and they keep their hair and everything adhering to their customs. These are of course for historical reasons, and it doesn't impair their fighting abilities, which have been proven in several wars. Even the British didn't want to mess with them, and let them keep their traditions.

if it impairs them i wonder what would happen if my Sikh PS in BMT kept a crew cut. That guy was one hell of a strict guy and not to mention fit. I remember on the first day my dad saw that my PS was a Sikh and he kept telling me good luck and he couldnt stop laughing at me. some dad i have, saddist. [laugh]

Some people are just asking to be given special treatment. Especially if its claimed to be of a religious nature, theres often really no point in trying to discuss. SAF must stick to the law.. otherwise, th eimplication is... some soldiers must fight and die... others just need to pray can already ah?

I think the whole thing is pretty simple & straight forward. SAF do not recognise what he's doing and his believes. He's got to be aware of that and follow the rules.

the guy is PTE rank

any JDO can sentence to max 7 days DB.

but what i feel is stupid is that he is a NSF. once u are NSF, the army doesnt care wat happens outside as this 2 yrs, your a$$ belongs to them.

I feel that by giving into this guy will be opening a can of worms.

BUT for NSmen/ reservist, these exemptions can surely be made.

Last time if i not wrong, got one of my NSman some male model or something who needed his hair. Thus he got company to write in letter, and we let him lor.
