Azman79 1st Gear August 15, 2009 Share August 15, 2009 Hi guys, Planning to downgrade from my OPC MPV to a normal sedan sedan car. I have listed either a 2006 Chev Optra or a 1992 Corona. Optra going for $29k while Corona going at $8000. Anyone can advise which ride should I go for, assuming I will down about $2k. Plan to drive for about 2 years before thinking of upgrading again to normal MPV, while saving up as my current MPV is about $550 a month. Exporter also taking in my ride at a very good price. Ride is approaching 5 years in November. Hope you guys can give a good advise on which one to go for. ↡ Advertisement

Silver_blade Turbocharged August 15, 2009 Share August 15, 2009 from your choices...i will go for the '06 Optra....cos it is newer and parts should be easily available, should have lesser owners thus lesser change of negligence, etc
Route88 2nd Gear August 15, 2009 Share August 15, 2009 Use to own tis Corona GLi 1.6 manual, very capable and torquey ride. Not many problem with the engine. But since tis model has already EOL, TS shud give 2nd thoughts.
Limxiaoming 2nd Gear August 15, 2009 Share August 15, 2009 are you facing financial problems? This forum really very very merciless hahaha. Give the guy a break. I would recommand maybe a 2nd hand avante or vios for that price. All cars have wear and tear, including a 1992 corona, even if its a TOYOTA. So pls don't try and save a few pennies and end up paying more

Aze06 Neutral Newbie August 25, 2009 Share August 25, 2009 Me driving corona auto. having loads of fun with it. Very limited downside even if you scrap the car anytime that you are able to upgrade back to a MPV. Spares parts not a problem as plenty of scrapyards in sg and across bring in used parts from japan. Contact me if you need help. In your search must be very patient to search for one in relatively good condition. But don't expect superb conditions.. Need to give and take a little as the car is 17 years old afterall... As long as engine ok... inside condition is ok, you should be able to take the car for the next 2 years no problem... The engine is 1 of the most reliable engines around.. same engine as the Toyota Corollas and that's why you still see so many of them on the road. However, there are also some which should have been thrown to the scraps long time ago... Will suggest that you consider the corona only if you know how to check the car or has friend who knows how to check. Otherwise, you may end up with plenty of things needing to repair No experience on Optra so can't comment...
