Kb27 Supersonic May 16, 2010 Share May 16, 2010 i saw the brand royaltek GPS in Esso and Carrefour... i think model is RN2, RN5 or RN6. is this brand good? can have international maps?? So far, Garmin seems to be the leader in International maps. Many other brands usually have strength in the local map of origins. I own a Garmin and have never regretted. Although it's a bit old and only 3.5" screen, it's still serving me well as far as basic navigation is concerned. Almost everywhere you go abroad, you can get the map. ↡ Advertisement
Ronleo 6th Gear May 18, 2010 Share May 18, 2010 I was going thru the thread n was quite surprised tat nobody actually mentioned anything abt TIBO GPS. I have been using it for 2 yrs liao n it can get me to my destination all the time. To be fair, i have not used other brands b4, so cannot compare but recently my fren bought one TIBO for only $189, 4.3' screen. The only thing tat i m still sore with TIBO is tat i paid $799 for mine back in early 2008!!!!

But if you compare, then you know the difference. I am pretty sure you will feel: oh, my tibo can not do this and that, oh, my tibo don't have this and that. Donut Supercharged May 20, 2010 Share May 20, 2010 How abt this Marbella M660? It's using MTK 32Channels GPS Chipset http://www.makagps.com/product/marbella/m660+.shtml
Esmond Neutral Newbie May 20, 2010 Share May 20, 2010 (edited) How abt this Marbella M660? It's using MTK 32Channels GPS Chipset http://www.makagps.com/product/marbella/m660+.shtml the mapking landmark always give wrong instructions, although better looking, but even worse than the mapking r12 in terms of the real navigation purpose. and it is very like copy of papago software ui. no predictive keyboard. for the poi, it has a lot of redundent information, for instance one postal code got 2-4 search results. as for the MTK processor, weak and low quality. update service is also a problem, slow and lazy. almost 2 month or even longer. although it is a workable gps, not suggest to buy. Tailgatepro 1st Gear June 21, 2010 Share June 21, 2010 (edited) Bring along 2 GPS device from SG to KL. Papago lead me shortcut to underground to Bukit Bitang whereby Mapking old road. Mapking cannot find where am I , Location of my car is jump this road to another road. Leading wrong. Papago no problem at KL. NS highway, both are accurate. Maybe due to only road on that map, easy for both. Found that I still like Mapking in SG then parpago. But when going to KL, Papago got advance on that trip. Very disappointed to Mapking on that few days. Edited June 21, 2010 by Tailgatepro

Kaipower Neutral Newbie June 22, 2010 Share June 22, 2010 my friend who got a papago threw it away after 3 days of using it and got a garmin instead. That bad? hmmm... I am a papago user and I use it in JB and KL - and drove like as if I am a local - taking routes that I would never use if I just rely on reading maps. For me, 5 out of 5 stars for my papago for Malaysia and SG maps. Also, I can listen to MP3 with it. Haven't tried the video though but I think it can play video files. So, it depends on your needs. Also, who really uses GPS overseas especially if you don't drive when overseas? The battery life will be consumed way before you reach your destination. The device is only as good as the map. Although I used Garmin, I don't think Papago is that bad. Perhaps he didn't know how to use it properly or got the latest updated map. All brand got so many model.... Prefer fast fast log on one.... For simple, cheap and relatively reliable gps, I suggest a Garmin Nuvi 255W will do. Of coz, other brands are cheaper as they have to undercut Garmin. For fast "log on" or tracked satellites, as long you don't turn off the gps, that's the fastest. If you turn it off and on every morning, then you need to wait for a while to get it tracking satellites. If you have clear skies and unblocked view, it could be as fast as less than one minute. It should be quite fast..I bought wayway 4301 using papago software by eastgear at the IT show in march..Till now, no problem with routes..When go wrong route, it re-plot in seconds..quite fast..I also like the text to speech feature.. The 1xxx series seemed to have problem with some icons not showing with maps from mfm. It is probably due to the new way Garmin software works, while mfm maps are using 3rd party compiler. Unless you want to use msm map compiled with Garmin compiler, then you should not have such problem. For best compatibility, get the 2xx series. Redstorm 1st Gear June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 Good news to those Garmin owners. The latest Garmin CN map of Sg/My 2010.20 has a comprehensive data base of postal codes and addresses in Singapore. I have tested it and I believe it is as good as the SLA postal codes and addresses data that is bundled with other brands of GPS devices sold locally. ↡ Advertisement
