stock brake pads are designed to be effective already

unless you increase the power of your car, it should be sufficient.

If you get lousy tires, super brake pads also cannot save you when you skid or ebrake cause they are the only ones

attaching your car to the road.

Good braking is vague bro, different expectations...

find out what is the limiting factor. on a wet day, unless ur brakes are faulty, the tires confirm limiting factor, so better tires will help in the wet.

on a dry day, can u activate ABS (if no ABS, can u lock up ur tires?)? if u can (you should be able to), then again, tires are the limiting factor.

it's highly unlikely that upgrading the brakes will shorten ur stopping distance for emergency braking. if u are talking abt downhill runs or track where brake fade may be an issue, then yes, upgrading the brakes is a good idea

for daily use, just get good tires and use stock pads. one mod that might improve the braking feel is stainless steel brake hoses. i believe it will improve brake response but i have not tried and have no intention to.

Agree with Bro Unfair [nod]

I share the same view as him [nod]

Unless you have modded your ride to a certain extend, the stock original brake pads should be more than sufficient [nod]

Getting a set of [thumbsup] rubbers with stock pad is good enough IMHO [nod]

Neutral Newbie

the most important is the standard rim size recommended = stock brake will be sufficient.

If you improve your engine, you will need to improve your brake and tires with more grip.

yap... agree, in fact, in most cases, its the tyre that cant stop the vehicle in time. Sometimes, its funny to see people upgrade their rotor, their caliper, the brake hose, the brake pad, but the tyre left less than 10%...

To be honest, both are equally important.

Stock original brake pads may not be necessary cheaper than aftermarket pads like Mintex, Ferado etc..

What is your ride and your tyre size?

It's always wiser to get brake pads which are more heat tolerance given our hot climate and for better brake bite.

Tyres are individual preference, comfort or performance, noisy or quiet.

Even for my dad's Lancer, he insist on using performance tyres and nothing lesser than stock pads; nevermind about noise.

He is using Falken ST115 tyres, Mintex brake pads (Red box) and Pro-RS Stainless steel brake hoses.

Not very fantastic on his setup, but at least he feel more confident on his ride's braking abilities on all road conditions.

Never short-changed yourself on safety.

Cheers

Hi,

I have installed Project Mu's brake pads over my stock ones and it really helps braking.

Of course, no one in his right mind would argue over the importance of having good tyres. But my personal experience is that good performance brake pads help too.

Both are important. Tires to have better grip on the road. They are your only contacts with the road surface. Never compromise that.

Brake pads are the ones that help the tires/wheels to stop. Have a set of good brake pads to complement your grippy tires would be good. Never mind about engine being stock and never modded. These days a lot of crazy drivers on Singapore roads....... ie never signal, cut lanes, jam brake, road hog, never check blindside, suicidal AT cyclists etc.

Over and above all, keep a safe distance from the car in front. The best brakes in the world would never stop your car in a nanosecond from top speed when the car in front e-braked or jam braked.

Do not stinge on stuffs related to safety. [shakehead]

$$$ could be earned back, but there's only 1 life! [angel]

We can save on other stuffs that do not affect safety. Think wisely!!! [idea]
