Neutral Newbie

putting to N wouldnt be a problem.....it really depends on the individual

also you dun really need to do an engine brake....unless you want to make the engine work...which in turn will consume more petrol....but if u feel u are going too fast...the maybe use the foot brake....but for auto it will normally engage a higher gear on a turn....so it depends really....

for manual yeah...you can control....say from gear 3 drop to gear 2 while turning.....but it will be slower....

for auto....you cant really change gears....but u can force the gear box to change gears....lol....but it not really needed...since the vehicle is already at a higher gear....

do u really even know what in the hell are u talking about?

if u dont then just guai guai read the thread la.

eg, cruising at 5th gear. before bend brake slightly if needed. den drop from 5th - 3rd. den accelerate.

hmm. My dad and uncles are all/have driven one. But experience wise not long though. At most 10 yrs only.

But i got one uncle who change between N and D very frequently (easily about 20-30times/day). Drove for 5+years before selling the car coz need to free up some cash. Condition was perfect.

and does any of your relative report to you when they send their car for servicing/repair?

don't mislead people with the so-called experience.. if you want to share, quantify it.

So far, most of the replies here indicate that should not use engine brake on auto car, so I am switching my driving pattern not to use engine brakes for now, unless at traffic junctions where I am stopping.

Will ask the toyota servicing guy later this month when i send my car for servicing and see what these technicians have to say.

Not necessary to use L1, 2 or 3...even going up/down genting. Done that many times to Genting using only D whether up or down.

not for my 2ton+ MPV leh, I only used 2 for both up and down Genting, only a small stretch (both direction) that I have to switch to D (with O/D off). Mine is only a 4-speed auto.

jia lat man.. i've been idling for ard 10 to 15mins in neutral quite a lot of times when i'm waiting for girlfriend or friends in the car. like that my car's torque converter will get overheated frequently and get damaged ah? [shakehead] jia lat.. [:(]

IMO, it's better to install an ATF cooler if you drive an Auto vehicle here in SG
