Thanks guys, good info, take a coach to Hotel area seems to the be way to go. One more question: Do you need a car to move about (visit touristy, Jonker for food) in Malacca? or Taxi, bicycle, walk are good options? Say stay around Hatten Hotel area.

No need to take cab.  Just use your legs LOL.

i always stay at Malacca Raya area and walk to Jonker street or vice versa.  My kids walk with us too.  Just carry an umbrella in case it rains.

These hotels are in Malacca Raya- Equatorial, Hatten, Straits Malacca & suites, Novotel Malacca, Fenix Inn, Imperial Heritage.

Pahlawan Melaka Megamall, Mahkota Parade and most attractions are near/in Malacca Raya.  Attractions - A'famosa Fort, Christ Church (red house), St Paul's church (Bukit Cina), Menara Taming Sari and some museums are all located behind Pahlawan Mall and Equatorial Hotel.

Walk further down is Jonker Street where most chinese eateries are - Chung Wah chicken rice, Hoe Kee Chicken rice, Jonker 88, Rong mao dim sum, Sun May Hiong Satay and etc.  The weekend Pasar Malam is in Jonker street.   If you have kids, you can bring them to the Mamee instant noodles museum.

Hotel in Jonker - Puri Hotel,  Baba house, courtyard@hereen and etc.  Casa De Rio is in the middle of Jonker and Malacca Raya.

No need to worry, let us know if you need help, we will teach you how to walk around.  [laugh] [laugh]

Forget to tell you - Hatten wifi is quite weak.

Straits Melaka not bad. I stayed there last year. Strong wifi. Cheap and good. Few mins walk to Hatten hotel only.

Ask for high floor and away from tour group.

Enjoy your trip!

Ramada is old like 30 years maybe.

Back in the day, it was the hotel in Banda Hilir.

Most visitors stay around Hatten / Equatorial area.

Enjoy.

Any review on Ramada Plaza Melaka?

I dun like its location.

I would recommend you to stay in Melaka Raya or Jonker Street area.

I think the hotels available should be Equatorial and Heritage Imperial (no swimming pool).

Novotel, The Straits and Hatten should be full or running high occupancy.

I'm planning to go during Xmas weekend. So many hotels are full. LOL

This hotel used to be managed by Ranaissance.

Despite its age, i think it is not a bad hotel.

I don't know why you hate its location.

There are really good local food around the hotel if you ask the front desk.

Once you get out of the hotel, turn left towards Bunga Raya Pantai.  There is a corner coffeeshop which is patronised by a lot of local.

At that junction, turn left toward Aldy hotel.  On the way, there is a chinese temple.

The chinese temple at night got very good seafood.

At the junction of Aldy Hotel, walk towards Bunga Raya.  There is a very good popiah in front of the building next to Madam King.

Walk further down, there is an alley next to an electrical store.  At 12pm, there is 1 store which sells very good siew bak rice.

I have to stopping writing now.  Getting hungry.

That's the problem. We are there just for one night. We are looking at Ramada because really no choice. So far the online reviews have been pretty OK except for the carpark

Any review on Ramada Plaza Melaka?

Ramada just got renovated few years ago. Big room, cheap but location abit off. Its within walking distance to shore.

Carpark narrow, some facilities old like pool and carpark. Dunno why last time i stay can smell cigarette smoke though they claimed its a smoke free hotel.

Go for hatten hotel better.

Theres new hatten place hotel on top of element mall but the mall still 30% occupied. Location also quite far.
