Left Right Left Right

Isn't it common sense that when on merging lane, cars will alternate to merge?

Why some motorist insist don't want to give way?

Incident happen to me just now on Keppel Way/Road.

While joining in the queue to enter ECP...

Got this silver Stream or Wish that's following a blue Freed Taxi on the right lane.

My car ,traveling on the left lane, was in front of silver MPV but behind taxi.

The silver MPV die die stick to the Taxi in front like a leech.

I was force to travel up the slope on the road shoulder and the silver car still don't want to give way.

In the end, I've to roll down my window and raise my hand before the silver MPV finally gave way.

Thinking abt the incident I suspect that the MPV driver thought I was queue jumping?

The merging lane there is something rather recent, so the driver may not realise it...

Anyway, I'll be interested to hear the other side of the story.

If anyone happen to see complain on other forum or thread or somehow know the MPV driver.

Please let him know abt this thread or post his reply.

If you noticed, the right arrow is ahead fo the left in merging lanes, thus, the vehicles on the LEFT should give way to theose on teh RIGHT.

Sometimes I get ppl at the left trying to squeeze, then that is when i kui turbo and pssssssssssssssst

True, should give way to the right. But normally in this case, there will be two rows waiting to merge into a single lane. So those on the left don't need to move?

IMHO, should alternate.

Ts can go behind the MPV if he doesn't give way anyway. Don't squeeze in front lor, not much difference since only one car diff.

That to me is my modus operandi...how much time you lose? 1-2 s? The inconveinence of days to get car repaired is more heart wrenching...

Its not comon sense. If I can still recall from driving theory decades ago, you should always give way to cars on the right where possible.

When 2 lane merge into one, and I'm ahead of the MPV on right.

I need to brake and stop until right side clear of vehicles?

I'm not talking abt joining expressway from side road...

Yah, I thought of it too... afterwards...

During the whole incident, traffic was bumper to bumper.

I was ahead of the MPV by half car lenght all of the time ( force until travel on the road shoulder).

Guess U're right, I should brake and try to nego back to the main flow.

However, in the moment, I'm just piss that MPV so selfish and a--hole.

Actually at that moment, I was thinking I won't mind bang car...

Of coz, I'll regret later lah.

I still don't understand merging lane is not alternate but left side give way to right?

This is something new to me.

For me it's always alternate or whoever is ahead before 2 lane become 1.

Like that who want to travel on left since U'll never move in a heavy traffic situation?

Actually it should be alternate. Although the first one is on the right. Due to the fact that the right vehicles can see the in coming traffic first. The follow by the left which will then merge towards right, so on so forth...

When lanes merge, it is alway nice if fellow road-users give way in "alternate pattern".

A very typical lanes merge situation is at the Woodlands Checkpoint, coming back from JB, after the boot-check, so many branches merging into 2 main lanes, which in turn merge in a single exit lane to the BKE.

Turbocharged

In the Netherlands (I think) they call it "zipping" because the cars join like the teeth of a zipper, and should certainly 100% alternate, then everybody gets there faster, what difference does one car length make?

The only time I won't do that is when I see someone trying to deliberatly jump queue, then I try to make sure he wait long long...can go to hell and lfy kite if wanna be rude.

most sensible is the left, right, left, right alternate - with the car in further in front the right of way.

Just experienced earlier this morning due to massive traffic jam along PIE due to 2 accidents, causing a 1st time jam for me at the merging lane from Bt Timah Rd to PIE at the Jln Anak Bt flyover.

Also quite common at the Lornie exit from PIE.

Life would be so much more stress free if drivers would learn to give way a little and be less impatient, even if they had the right of way. And a wave of the hand of thanks when receiving some road courtesy when some one gives way to you is always appreciated.

Neutral Newbie

me encounter more worse case..

it was midnight 4am at bukit panjang filtering in expressway BKE, check blindspot the whole road no car but only a bike at most left lane(not sure whether it's malaysia or SG bike). Den i signal and while merging to the left lane, this bloody biker horn at me and didn't give way to me. i was like WTF the whole expressway no car and this bloody ant biker still dont wan move or give way to me. Worse is after i complete merge to left lane, he suddenly change to 2nd lane overtake me, show me his stupid hand signal and move to my lane again followed by a jam brake.. <_< Don't understand why this biker who wishes for an early death but wana drag people down! [furious]

if i am not wrong. Basic theory or is it advance theory? state that merging lane is alternate. Dont want to debate on whether left first or right first. but its left right left right.

I believe in alternates, the rule is damn simple but some people are just too damn stupid.

Whoever is infront of the other car, either left or right, gets to merge into the single lane first. If there are two cars on the left which are infront of the slower right car, both of them get to merge first.

On the highway, where each have their own lanes, left lane preferably gives way to right lane, if you are going to merge at the same time, left side should give way. Its not a matter of losing, its a matter of preventing further accidents.
