Chickenbackside 1st Gear April 5, 2012 Share April 5, 2012 Bak kut teh I'd say in one of the better choices already lah. I'd just avoid drinking the soup cos of the MSG. Usually I'll order a bowl of kidney, a bowl of liver and a bowl of ribs. Avoid the soy sauce stuff. You can taste the sugar. You can always work out your lifestyle in a way that you can still enjoy your bak chor mee and char kuey tiao. Simply remember what you eat most of the time determines the state of your health and the tightness of your pants. So if you must eat the bad stuff, just make it once in a loooong while. Don't eat it if it's mediocore. Make sure it's really worth it. At Suntec, I'll eat at pho bo. I'll order a large mixed beef without the noodles. Ask them for extra tau geh. Pretty filling. ↡ Advertisement

Mazdaowner Moderator April 6, 2012 Share April 6, 2012 豆芽lor. You know, the raw ones they serve when you order pho, together with the basil leaves and lemon... I know, I personally stayed off them due to the "Being from bean" factor.
Chickenbackside 1st Gear April 6, 2012 Share April 6, 2012 Bean sprouts are fine, just not beans. Already sprouted, they are a vegetable.

Cymagnus Clutched April 6, 2012 Share April 6, 2012 (edited) For beans, I read as long as they are soaked, fermented, sprouted, should be quite safe. Normally bean sprouts are soaked in water to make them last longer before cooking, so think this is a plus. For outside food, one option I had is the Korean Saba fish hotplate set where there the whole fish itself, bean sprouts, small sides of kimchi & Olson billis, seaweed soup and rice. I will usually finish up the fish, head bones except the tail. Eat the seaweed, not drink the soup, asked for half bowl of rice. Dowz 1st Gear April 7, 2012 Share April 7, 2012 It's brunch for me today. 10 steamed tiger prawns, 4 hard boiled eggs, oolong tea. nice! do you clear the s--t before you steam them? Also, do you use ginger slices etc, or just steam them like that.
Cymagnus Clutched April 7, 2012 Share April 7, 2012 No, i did not clear the sai before steaming no ginger slices etc.. Have it plain, prefer it's natural 'sweetness' especially if they are fresh. Normally i will use ginger spice, dash of vinegar with steamed fish. Ginger slices and a bit of wolfberries with steamed chicken.
