Hi all [wave],

Anyone has driven and stayed in Terengganu before? Terengganu seems to have few nice sea facing beaches and villages/towns. Please feedback the hotel and resorts that you have stayed too.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

During the March school holiday. I'm divided between Kuala Terengganu and Cherating at this moment. Will be making a decision soon.

Stayed over at Ri-Yaz Heritage Resort and Spa once for trip to Perhentian on the next day, excellent place with beautiful rooms. Recommend to check in early to enjoy the facilities. Tried Primula Hotels at KT once, clean and decent 3.5-star hotel that is close to town, if you are reaching KT late in the evening and checking out the next day, it should be a good choice.

If you have monies to burn and looking out for a romatic place, you can consider Tanjong Jara, part of the YTL group of luxury hotels in Malaysia (I have not stayed here as it is not a place for family with kids).

If you are visiting KT, binge on seafood as prices are dirt cheap. A decent seafood dinner for 10 will set you back by less than RM150, unbelievable!

Ri-Yaz seems pretty well received in the web review. Did you try the Spa services? Worth the money?

Thank you very much for the feedback. Will make KT my next road trip destination.

Since we are in this topic.. can anyone roughly point out the different stops along the way?

1st stop should be Kota Tinggi

You can stop at Kota Tingi for the Ah Kiang Bak Kut Teh which usually sold out by afternoon. If your final destination is KT, you might not want to stop at Mersing, but perhaps at Kuantan/Cherating for lunch or stopover.

I'm contemplating to try out 2 resorts, 1st stop in Cherating and follow by Kuantan. If have more day to spare, probably catch one night at Kota tinggi then back to MY home in JB.

Its a very interesting drive up to Terengganu. [drivingcar] The journey will take around 8 to 9 hours with 2 to 3 stops of about 15 mins.

Departed from Sg around 6 am and arrive Kuala Terengganu at around 3 or 4 pm.

If you wish to stop over for a night before Kuala Terenganu, Cherating will be a good place to stop over which is about 3 hrs drive before KT.

The route taken as follows: SG > Johor via E2 > exit Yong Peng via J150/J151 to Segamat > head to route 12 direction of Muazam Shah, stop for rest period > Kuantan via E8 > exit Kijal via route 3, this route will take you along the coastal road for a scenic drive of the open sea right up to Kuala Terengannu.

There are plenty of hotels to choose in KT and it depends on your needs / budget. [thumbsup]

Have a nice and safe journey. [wave]

Oppss.. sorry.. just check google maps.. I will only reach Kuantan... Will be staying in Hyatt resort kuantan...

I split the journey into 2 major legs..

Departing from New York Hotel JB >>> Mersing

Mersing rest stop then to Kuantan...

How will the road and traffic condition be? Big lorries along the way? 2 lane traffic? good straight roads without potholes? etc..???

Any advise for stop over to make the drive easy and manageable?

Thanks..

We didn't have the time, reached there at around 3 pm but it is a really pretty place. Speaking of spa, you can get very good value packages at Lake Kenyir Resort and Spa, which is about 1 hour away from Kuala Terengganu. Excellent massages/services at a price you cannot refuse.

If you are travelling to Kuantan (apology, KT in my earlier post refers to Kuala Terengganu, not Kuantan or Kota Tinggi), recommend to stop at Mersing. Thereafter, I don't remember any major towns/rest stops till you reach Pekan, which is less than 30 minutes away from Kuantan.

I seldom travel to Kuantan via Mersing, prefer the Sin-Yong Peng-Segamat route, so I am not the best person to advise on this matter.

I have never considered the chalet/bungalow option, they are usually not well maintained in Malaysia. If you like nice beaches and prefer to stay away from the crowd, go north of Kuantan. I have not stayed over at any resort before Kuantan along route 3, so nothing I can recommend.

Hyatt Kuantan is a good resort, albeit on the expensive side. It has a nice beach and cozy rooms, take the sea-facing regency room if you are available. To save money, you can consider staying at Swiss Garden.

The review for Hyatt Kuantan has not been that great. They even have bed bugs case if you looked at one of those travel review in the web. Swiss Garden is more value for money and they have interesting package every now and then.

For resorts, I only go with those have really nice pool with good review of breakfast :D. This is quite true to a certain extent, if a resort pool is too small, ill-maintained and don't adhere to attire rules, the hotel/resort can't be any better.

Swiss Garden had a wonderful & huge selection for breakfast. I spent >2 hours enjoying my breakfast last time. Can skip lunch after that. [thumbsup]
