No no...... Never change your crank pulley because all pulleys come with a harmonic damper. Its going to affect your engine in the long run..... Unless you are going for races.

you could get one that is designed for your engine... not a generic one...

Supersonic

Mine is not as bad as yours.

But it hit the engine block during a timing belt change.

Found this out later and saw the design did not take the protrusion ring of the engine block into consideration.

I don't think I would ever buy a lightened crank pulley again.

Too much risk for little gain. Not worth the trouble.

Stock is the best. Don't be itchy.

No, there are no crank pulleys that is really designed for engines. Whats available in the market are just generic pulleys with so-called harmonic damper meant to mimic what the stock damper is doing.

The issue with harmonic damper is that whats on the stock pulley is tuned for the engine. The weight distribution etc has been pretested at the factory. Such testing requires a great deal of equipment, time and expertise, not to mention money as well.

I dare to say all the aftermarket brands will not invest the same time and money into designing a lightened crank pulley for various engines (profits simply won't cover the cost). Thus, putting such a pulley will upset the balance of the engine and cause more vibration etc.... Bad for the engine.

You won't face problems immediately one. Everything will seems fine. ITs only after sometime then you realise there is increased vibration from the engine.....

Actually if you want better acceleration, why not change your flywheel instead? Its much better than changing pulley. Effect is more pronounced as well.

dunno where to find for my model

used for 1yr liaos. ppl used the same crank pulley also no problem even after 3yrs. i guess its ok if its specifically designed for your car by a reputed tuner

I now uses a another stock crank pulley which is slightly smaller in size but fit my engine.

Actually your engine wont fail suddenly because of crank pulley. You may only notice increased vibrations. What actually happens is that the vibration is causing an increased in wear and tear. Means you have to rebuild engine sooner.

so far so good engine feels as smooth as a 6 pot.

anyway the crank pulley runs my supercharger as well so the new one increases my boost.

Actually thats not due the the pulley, its the balancer shafts in the engine that makes it smooth. Actually changing crank pulleys should not be a problem for those who can afford Merc or BMW etc....

Can afford such cars definitely can afford the repairs.

I installed LWCP (w/o harmonic damper) on my ride in Yr 1.5+ yr. Done by a well-known and reputable installer that does exhausts. Ran it for 1 year w/o problems. Den backside itchy went to remove it and went back to stock after reading forums. Ran it for 6 months b4 backside itchy and went to install another LWCP with harmonic damper. Installed by the installer that sold the LWCP. Ran it for 6 months. Then problems came in. Engine went haywire and spent $600 on mini-overhaul. Valve throttle broken. Engine mech says timing belt was off by a few points (IIRC) and hinted that it may be caused by the installation of the LWCP. 2.5 yrs have passed since then. Engine still running fine and still on that same LWCP. Dare not take out liao.

If I get a new ride, I probably stick to stock....for convenience sake.
