BMW 5 Series orders exceed expectations

The all-new BMW 5 Series has exceeded its maker's own sales forecasts by a mile, according to a report by Bloomberg. Unveiled in November last year, the F10 5-Series was launched in Europe this past March and is apparently selling like the proverbial hot cakes.

After losing money in 2009 the world's biggest maker of premium cars aims to improve its lot considerably in 2010. Cars like the X1 and 5-Series will help it achieve its target operating margin in the "lower one-digit percentage range." CEO Norbert Reithofer said his team is pushing for at least 1.3 million unit sales this year. However, challenges such as the lingering recession as well as Greece's financial problems and its effect on the euro currency could affect these plans.

BMW took the top premium automaker crown from the Mercedes-Benz brand in 2005 and has not looked back since, although Audi seems to be making a serious challenge for it.

Umm....Euro has drop around 14% since Nov 09 against the SGD.

But the COE has gone up far more than just 14%.

Go check out yourself. Don't need to feel. When honda or toyota drops in sale , Hyundai sales dropped as well.

Anyway typical Korean car owner mentality. When KRW continues to appreciate , cost of Korean cars would also increase. Would the demand of KR cars remain the same? Typically , people view Kr cars as substitutes to Jap cars. Now that KRW appreciate, would demand for KR cars decrease people think it is a griffin good as prices increase ? Do note , i'm proposing a phenomenon i saw not trying to deride any make.

It is about time to see whether if those discussions i had with Kr supporters about Contis being cheaper would stand in time.

I got a feeling Korean and contis will squeeze the japs out of the market

I agreed that current line of Jap cars are not exactly value for money......

Kimchi cars are are really much better for value right now. And anyone who is after premium brands will prefer Conti.

BMW luxury in your hands

By Harsha Jethnani

BMW'S new 5 Series is going to 'jump out of the pages' of The Straits Times tomorrow as part of an innovative advertising campaign launched to kick-start sales of the car here.

Spanning eight pages, the advertisement is intended to stop readers in their tracks so that the lines of the latest model from Bavaria can be fully appreciated.

The two-month marketing push, part of a $2 million launch for the series, is the product of a collaboration between BMW's Singapore agent Performance Motors, BMW Asia and Singapore Press Holdings.

The managing director of Performance Motors, Mr Say Kwee Neng, said the advertisement will 'attempt to capture and showcase the beauty and magnificence of the new 5 Series and have it literally jump off the page'.

The concept has never been executed before in Singapore, according to Mr Say, who added that 'like the BMW 5 Series, it is new, bold, and exciting'.

Mr Leslie Fong, senior executive vice-president of SPH Marketing, said: 'We are happy to partner with Performance Motors and BMW in this innovative print project to showcase their latest models.'

The choice of The Straits Times, said Mr Fong, testifies to the fact that the paper is the preferred choice among advertisers for launching impactful campaigns in Singapore.

A total of 500 cars were pre-ordered prior to the launch and 100 of these will be handed over to their owners tomorrow.

Friend of mine bought the outgoing model at a "stock clearance" sale of $160k, a difference of $60K !!

I think it's not an entry model...

Remember reading that BMW is launching with 530 first and then go down the line to 520 or something
