Anyone tried de-cating?

it will clog up your cat wad.

so you'll still fail inspection even with your cat so might as well not put

The "clog" here refers to a very thin coating (we are talking about microns here). It does not restrict exhaust flow but it will render the car useless. Cause the exhaust gas will not be in contact with the catalyst, thus no chemical reaction.

burning of unburn fuel in the cat is not intended... when this happens the honeycomb melts causing further restrictions...

the correct way for the cat to work is to use its special metals to cause a chemical reaction which purifies the gasses that pass through it...

i think for your Merc if you remove your cat, your engine check light will come on...

Thats incorrect. One main purpose of the cat is to burn any unburnt/partially burnt fuel. It will not melt the honeycomb structure.

Will faulty cats fail inspection if the car is entirely stock?

By right, it should fail. However, emissions from different cars are different (even they are the same model). Thus some may still be able to pass.

Imaging spending 3K to replace a lousy quality factory cat just to pass inspection, and the warranty is already over for that part. Headache!

(edited)

Inspection centres test cars exhaust emission with four gase analysers ( HC,CO,O2,Nox) . So long as the results are within the set limits, yr ride pass the emission test. All cars imported into Singapore must be equipped with cat convertor. At inspection centres, they only do a visual check but base on the emission readings , they can conclude whether yr cat is working or not.

Try running a engine without manifold and min exhaust pipe, you may not be able to idle and accelerate to you satisfaction. Once you place the manifold and min exhaust pipe , the restriction will develop back pressure. This pressure ( how much depends on each make and model of engines) is very necessary resistance to prevent engine over run ( resulting in crankshaft hitting the crankcase and piston slapping the cylinder walls at great forces.)

When dyn engines it's best to have a back pressure gauge install after the exhaust manifold

??? who runs an engine without a manifold??? [laugh]

kekeke.

ECL come on will go into limp home mode and no power.

do you think the piggyback ECU can compensate and trick the sensors?

my car has no problems after i removed the cat... sensor still intact... no idea abt merc bro... not rich enuf... [laugh]

A CAT can cause few K and it is on every car for a reason - to reduce the green house gas emission

human are already guilty of creating green house gases, so STOP being irresponsible by increasing the emission just to gain some house power

house power?... wahahaha [laugh]

anyways pls dont talk c--k here.... if you tell me you take mrt or buses only... do not drive do not take taxis... no aircon at hm... bathe only cold water...

then i'll sell my car and take public transport....

ALL engines will have unburnt fuel going through the exhaust when it runs rich... engines that run rich all the time... cat's life will shorten due to the honey comb melting prematurely and losing its function...

yes the cat is made to work when its hot... thus its plc nearer the extractors... but main purpose is not to burn the unburn fuel... although it does so...

The job of the catalytic converter is to convert harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions before they ever leave the car's

Actually some car do run w/o intake manifold. Those cars using ITBs one.
