Many Times Drivers are the ones Causing Jams!!

Sorry, some whinning here.

I feel that poor driving by many people is the main result of jams (of course other factors like road designs and traffic lights are sometimes the culprit instead).

From my observation, I realise than many people like to cut in from lane 1 to leftmost lane when they are around 100-200m from the express way exits (sometimes even closer). If they can't cut in, they just slow down and causes cars behind to brake and slow down as well.

As cars get slower, they get closer to each other and its even more difficult to cut in. then drivers have to slow down even more to try to change lanes... The end result in a jam at expressway exits. I ever did see people coming to literally a halt (like 10-20KM/H)on lane 2 so they can cut in to lane 4 to exit the expressway on CTE. You horn them them also don't care. Then you have to stop with them.

Few notorious spots are CTE exit to PIE, CTE exit to bukit timah, PIE to BKE and more.....

This is terrible driving.....

If consistently successful that one can abruptly cut into the queue of cars and get away it, he/she would most likely make this alternative method as a habit, rather the queuing. Usually I see more bigger CC or "sports" cars do it more often.

another culprit is road hogging. every morning i ride to work, sure at the front will b some asswipe driving at 60-70km/hr wif no traffic blocking him/her. n this ppl r oblivious/stubborn to their surrounding. ppl horn or tailgate them also they bochup. these r the main cause of traffic build up on expressways.

Problem with most poor drivers is that they are selfish and don't care about holding up or inconveniencing other road users. They are the only ones who matter. Same with much of our society. Don't know any way we can change this behaviour.

Road hogging may cause a slow down of traffic, but hardly the main cause of major jams. Accidents & breakdowns are the main causes of jam.

Its Selfish, impatient, reckless, & inconsiderate drivers are main cause of Singapore hostile roads & accidents. Sad to say, we have a lot in Singapore. Disprite a respectable % of people with high education & economic sucess, our level of politness, coutesy, & helpfulness are way lower than many 1st world countries.

Our size is so small, & it takes less than 1 hour (give or take) to get from one end to other, yet people zip zap around traffic, can't wait for the lights to turn fully green, & cars ( & bikes, especially bikes that love to beat the lights) on the other side to slow down before moving off, can't wait for predistran to cross the road before speed off. & for those that does, get horn by others at the back.

There are people in other countries that need to travel far far longer distance, yet, they can show much much patient & coutesy on the road.

Agree with you there. I notice when driving in our northern neighbour, although the traffic is chaotic, yet there is some degree of courtesy on the roads- people will generally give way if you signal early, etc. which is the opposite to what we have here.

You are correct.

This is the cause of the jams west bound on PIE

for cars turning into BKE.

Our education are flawed in my opinion. From young, we focus too much on results, acedamic success, & very little in how we treat each other. People & parent are over concerning about the position of the children in class, in school. Have you went home & your parent or guardian ask you, have you been making friends, did you help someone in need. Never, for me.

As we moved up the education, it become even worst. As least for me, my friends in school become lessor & lessor as I moved up the education system. In primary school, I know practically everyone of the same level, by Secondary, you know your class, & maybe a few from other classes due to eca, or soccer/basket games after school, & thats it. By Uni, I was be hard press to name half of the people in my classes.

Not only that, I think some places well known for hostile/ unfriendly people, have improved alot like Hong Kong, China, while we hardly improved, if at all over the years.

For this, its 100% driver problem!!

I do travel there sometime. There is no jam on BKE, no jam on the slip road up to BKE. The jam is due to cars trying to cut in from other lanes and hence those on lane 3 and 4 have to slow down significantly to give way!!

If people just bother to enter lane 3/4 much earlier, thus wouldn't happen.

banning women from driving would reduce accidents by 80%

Haha!

Everytime I pass an accident, I have never seen a woman involved.

Women accidents is always like cannot park in the car park properly and

scratch the side!

Its usually parking accidents and not on main roads causing jams.

Maybe you should see the cars of men who say women cannot drive,

look out for kerb rashes, dents here and there, scratches etc

I fully agree with what you said- parents never asked me about whether I showed concern to the kids in school, but it was always what marks I got and what position in class I came. I hope I don't fall into the same cycle with my kid.

What you said about the other countries is true too. I think customer service in HK is much better than in Sing. Even in small shops you get proper service.

Woman usually only cause those parking accident or reverse accident i never seen a women involve in any major accident. That day i saw a Honda Civic 1.8 overflip in-front of my car luckily he come out. He Open the door himself and climb out but the another passenger is struggling to come out. If u go and see the Mitsubish i Extreme Drive Event you wont say women are non-capable but so far...........FAR I only saw women on 350k and below Cars. Maybe they are scared to damage it? Haha!!!

Nobody likes to wait behind a super long queue waiting to turn left or merge into the ECP/AYE.

Many will cut in at the very last moment to save time.

Well....block as much as we can in our mind.

But when a run down taxi or old car or lorry comes along, all balls will give chance one.

Every day I reflect back that luckily I did not have accidents. Jsut one small bang will delay your time to work and maybe the next few days while the car is under repair.

Worth it?
