ENGINE Sluggish when EO hits 6K mark

Next change, gonna try Elf Excellium..

 

One thing i like about Castrol is that its Clear...

 

Compared to other engine oil which is much "duller"...

 

Not sure if there's any diff in terms of performance or not

that becos of the oil. Try FK Massimo.

 

am using it and no more such feeling like previous oil used.

 

I used royal purple b4..its sucks after 5k. Amsoil..lotsa hype & reviews but useless for both my cars! FK Massimo...just 1 word..WOW..V smooth, very good boundary film strength and can last 10k for the fully syn range no problem. The more you rev, the sweeter your engine will sound. That why the Vtec guys or people who track often use this oil cos the temp stability of the engine..no over heating.

 

Downside is expensive and I think no use for grocery shoppers. 1 other oil is better is ELF which Stuggart uses and is even better but at $60 a liter, it should be.

Elf Excellium is good. Tried that engine oil on 2 separate occasions. Might be using back that oil again in the near future.

 

Last oil change was CLTR. Recently change to Voltronic 5W40.

IMO no difference both as bad. i have a friend who use the idemitsu metal can MIJ ones he say not bad. but i dun dare try also. stick to my regular EO better

 

I have not settled on 1 brand yet.

dun assume. i'm a car owner using FK oil & happy with it only.

have been sending to the same workshop and they said this is alright. just want to be sure that this is a norm. and usually FC will rise after 6k mark

 

get another WS to check. sometimes a 2nd opinion is better.

usually EO will last for 10K for fully synthetic one.. did not experience what u say before 10K.. was using the M*****1...(using the silver one.. think is 5W50)

 

alos u mention that ur car was 5yr. maybe it is better than u use thicker EO.. that what my mech usually will do when car get oder...

 

oil treatment.. that one might work.. but mostly i use thos fuel addictive to clean up the engine... it work for me...

 

another could be the tire pressure that could give what u mention.. maybe just check the tire...

For brand, I will go for Amsoil & Redline.

 

For quality of oils, I will ensure oil is ACEA A3/A5 or ILSAC GF-4.

 

Coincidentally, these 2 brands oils are A3/A5 (depending on grade) & GF-4 (depending on grade) compliant.

Been following this thread. Sorry TS to hijack your thread. i have been using penzoil in my ride for the past 1 year. so far ok. now, my mech told me its ok to use diesel engine oil since he says its ok for old cars. have tried it for the past week. seems quite smooth. the oil is toyota brand diesel oil. anyway, my car is 19yrs old so mech said its not a prob. Anyone knows if its ok?

yes and no

can be use cos diesel oil usually thicker, but they usually contain some stuff like anti foaming agents..etc which are of no use to petrol engines

the approach he is going is probably "spend less on petrol oriented oils and use a semi syn oil formulated for diesel which is cheaper"

 

get a good oil formulated for older/high mileage cars

When my car was 4yrs old at 120K KM, I did a top overhaul. The amount of sludge and dirt that sits on the piston, valves, intake are just unbelievable..

 

Did that and you will your engine will be good as new...

 

my FC improve by 1 notch and no heavy feeling even after 15K. me using Voltronics EO 5/40.

and my ride was Opel Astra.

If it is consistent, use a OBD reader to capture the baseline readings and use it to compare after the 6K mark. I would probably look at ignition timing to see whether there is any retard.

 

I did a dyno at the wheels for my celica at 145k and there is no loss of horsepower, so for me it is not normal. Even up till the 180k mark when I exported my celica, I don't have any increase in FC between oil changes.
