Odometer changed.

so better not to believe in odometer. low mileage is yet to believe for buying 2nd hand car

I just encounter this today..

 

Paid a booking fee today at commonwealth car mart..

 

Decided to call Borneo to check on service record, and found out that the odometer was tempered..

 

Confronted the dealer, and they offered a two years extended warranty with a particular workshop(note that all servicing must go thru them)

 

What is your opinion on such a arrangement?

 

1. SHould I take up their offer

2. Get a refund

3. Blow up the matter

extended warranty can also have many loopholes, like they can say this and this not covered, or only cover workmanship not parts etc

 

also having to put the car through their workshop gives them the chance to "make back" money by marking up costs and parts (like changing parts that dont need changing and charging you for it)

 

so for me accepting the extended warranty is out.

warranty is bull, just an excuse to suck more money from forcing u to service with them.

 

just ask for outright discount.

Yup, personally, warranty at their own WS is out too. Tink e trust is already shaken so wat gd is warranty if dey chose to milk out frm u later to recover any surplus (if any) paid for u to go ahead w purchase.

 

If u can live with e true mileage and wan to take e risk of wear/tear parts more frequently, den go for a discount. If nt comfortable at all + its robbing u e joy of enjoying yr ride, den go for a refund.

 

In future, make e call to e AD b4 signing or placing a deposit....save u heartbreak or headache if e dealer chut pattern.

The warranty given is by a third party..

 

Anybody heard or used kc auto or kang auto..

 

These are the names quoted by the dealer on the extended warranty offer.. But as mentioned, must service at their workshop..

My fren and I owned a Jap car under warranty, his odometer was found faulty during the w/period, so AD decides to give him a new odometer, so the whole panel including the speedometer/etc has to go as one piece. Guess what his odometer reads: " 0000 " Zero, zilch.

 

His concerns, he stay in landed and has 2 cars, one a hybrid and a Jap car, extremely low mileage and hardly used as compared to mine, who travelled daily from A-B. Who would believe him when he upgrade? NO AD will reveals the car servicing history/accident report/appraisal etc.

 

Moral of his story: When a motorist has low mileage and decides to upgrade, does that equate to his odometer has been tampered with?

Not necessary so. He has been driving for more than 5 years and in tip-top cond, his mileage is less than 40-45K, ( I think, we went for servicing together.)

 

We shared many ' lobang ' on getting spare parts and motoring news, updates, coz we're motoring enthusiast.

 

The work of tampering cars with high mileage was none other than . . . . . . .. U know I know, in order to sell a car, they need to come out with such stunts to entice customers, so if one of the new bird going around to buy 2nd hand, let the buyer " Caveat Emptor " bewares

Can't agreed more, by accepting the warranty, they can milked their way thru yr wallet, SP motorist are smarter now.

Do you believe 3 years old car with 28K mileage only ?

 

 

U have to give the benefit of the doubt, check the oil gauge, a/c filter, fan belt, brake pad, tyre/rim and interior quality.

 

After 3 yrs of usage, it should not look like 28K mileage, true, the dealer may have done a good service/polishing job etc, as experienced car buyer, sent it for Vicom test independently.

 

I judged based on my visual observation and test drive with volume off round circuit, slope, no test drive no buy for me.

Those dealer who tamper odometer in order to sell at a better price is committing misrepresentation with the intention to cheat..

 

It can be taken to task...

guys, which machine you use to change odometer for vw audi cars

i use vag k+can 4.8, the black one, used to work well,

but recently, i failed in adjusting kilometers for 2010 vw golf, and i tried in 2008 audi a3, also failed

there are some specific machines that can change the odometer value. dealers must use this kind of machine to cut down the value

Some cars are really low mileage and not tampered. My Dad's RX300 is exactly 7 years old, registered in Jan 2005. His mileage is about 85,000 km only. One owner and serviced with agent all the way.

 

So, not all odometers are tampered and sometime you can get genuine low mileage cars ... but very rare lah

ECU don't record mileage. Any mileage stated in ECU is from the ODO itself.

 

Try this, change or swap your ECU. See if the mileage has changed.
