This seems to suggest that income increase is keeping pace, if not exceeds inflation. Wonder how true is the reality on the ground.

Household income from work increased in 2010, according to a paper released by the Singapore Department of Statistics today. It has recovered to above the level before the economic downturn in 2009.

This is in tandem with the strong economic growth Singapore experienced in 2010.

The median monthly income from work among resident households increased from $4,850 in 2009 to $5,000 in 2010

Definitely true for those high income earners.....

Maybe for Mid income earners...

Definitely no no for low income owners. That why the Gini coefficient keep getting wider.... for those low income compare with the rest...

Well.....I feel depressed looking at the figures.....my household is below the average $5,000.

Can someone explain the subtle differences of the two statements?

Is my understanding correct?

1) Means the standard household income is $5,000 in Singapore? Considering ALL households in Singapore, including those household with zero income.

2) Means a standard household with at least one person working, is $5,700 in Singapore? Not including those zero income household.

Yes sole bread winner.

So sad to see I am in the below average range.

My friend 35 years old supporting wife & baby earns only $3600pm. So should he be more depressed than you?

My friend also in the same boat, but only S$3K salary. Got a wife, a baby, a car, 2 parents not working and another kid and ex-wife whom he paid alimony monthly.

Sometimes I wonder how does he survived??? :o

usually, the income of the sole breader is higher than those where both husband and wife is working... so, ur pay is not below average actually.
