Which Van Good?

Good day to all brother and sisters,

 

will need to have a van for work very soon and would like to hear comments and advices from van-terans about which van is good.

 

Looking for 2nd hand euro van, under 2 liters engine capacity, around 30k price tag and preferably turbo charged.

 

Hearsay Opel Combo is powerful but also very problematic. Any views about that?

 

Also quite interested in the Fiat Doblo 1.9 but have not much knowledge about that.

 

Need advise to help me narrow down my choices before heading down to dealers.

I recently got an old VW Caddy. It's 10 yrs old, 260k km; with a COE extension till 2017.

Under $15k, I can't complain about the price.

 

I've done a timing belt replacement for safety.

Old van can be expected to have quite a bit of problem and need to set aside money for repairs.

Turbo is not working, so I didn't bother with it due to repair cost. Now, it only has a "small" turbo effect.

 

I've fixed a bit of the door plastic problem myself and it's leaking coolant somewhere....I just keep adding water until I find the problem.

 

Otherwise, it's running pretty well right now, which is what I need.

 

It's better you try to find a van with more "personal" ownership than from a company with many employees sharing and abusing the van.

Opel combo, comes 60-80k the clutch change will kill you first den the ECU placement is to close to engine heat, kaput easily so was the radiator. Got a fren whose signals and lightnings got problem, was told it was like link to ECU cost him 700bucks overall the van was powerful and handles well parts are on the high side.

 

Wat about Litace or the new nissan looks attractive.

......27 to 28K can get a good 2007 Doblo ...better if u can find one with less than 60K mileage.

 

mine...1.3 pple says boh lak...but I'm o.k. wif it....clock near 100K liao....so far so good no major issues, except replacement of 1 glow plug.

Just do the regular servicing...put oil & fuel + the regular change of filters, so far replaced 2 batteries liao & it goes.

 

1.9L engine runs with the timing belt....8 valves....1.3L with the timing chain, 16 valves...but the oil filter location not so ideal....got to strip down a few items before reaching it, service mech frequently grumbled with this issue.

Euro vans look nice, but when come to repair are very expensive. The parts are expensive. I used to drive Doblo 1.3 and 1.9. I spent quite a bit on the repairs. When they are not problematic, they are good to drive. When the problems come, it gonna be very headache. I rather you get a Japanese van.

Get a Toyota van. Unless you buying new, dun get an used euro van.

after reading all the reviews you guys gave, euro vans are not as good as they look. really appreciate all the comments. I shall widen up my choices again before i narrow down again. [:)]

usually the owners use for to run errants or personal use etc. where performance isn't a considering factor.

performance for effective overtaking. Run errands need to meet timing and cannot afford to be stuck behind some let's say... MID vehicle. LOL

After some consideration, I think the VW Caddy is pretty neat. Don't really know the reliability but it seems like nobody is selling theirs. I mean the current model just to be clear. Brand new one with the 1.6 litre turbo engine costs $67,000, which is wayyyyyy out of my budget.

 

Probably go for a 2nd hand Citroen Berlingo which costs around $30,000 and hopefully a 2008 registered one. Seems alright.
