Melvyn Neutral Newbie April 11, 2011 Share April 11, 2011 lady owner here. my front suspension got prob, bumpy ride on my 4 yr altis. Suddenly bumpy? Could be leaking oil and the dampening is no good anymore with the springs working to keep up. was quoted $380 to change. Is this price reasonable? Not familiar with car repair , so am asking advice here. Quoted by Borneo or workshop? Price is reasonable if it's a new set. So so if it's reconditioned set. Do u hv a contact for cheaper source? Why not join sgaltis.com or some other forums with other Altis within. I'm sure there'll be contacts with exact prices and address since all driving same make and model. You can also surf ard see if others have the same problem and narrow down the suspected issues. Knowledge is power and with that knowledge, workshop wanna rip you off also not that easy. Is changing in JB cheaper? Most probably cheaper but anything wrong firstly have to go all the way in to rectify. Secondly, it's other ppl's territory wanna complain against poor pdts or services still have think twice. For maybe SGD50 bucks cheaper worth it? Hope I helped

The_young_once Neutral Newbie April 11, 2011 Share April 11, 2011 (edited) Also Altis here, 2006 car, suspension, all 4? i'm assuming is changing the shock absorbers only, the springs use back old one, $380 is a very fair price, I'm also assuming quoted $380 is for 4 pieces "original replacement" made-in-malaysia Kayaba shocks, sounds alright, go for it from rough experience made-in-japan all 4 pieces will come to about $400+ near $500 (also original-replacement type), otherwise any sporty type/something special maybe up to $800 also have Kenny APOLOGIES: never read properly jumped in! i see "4" i thought 4 pieces suspension, it's actually "4 year old" car! then $380 is quite expensive, I believe $380 can do ALL four suspension, I recently changed my front suspension also, (old one leaking), my mechanic gave me at $110 a piece, so front 2 is $220 (excluding labour fixing), but all in all definitely less than $300, you interested PM me i can recommend i cannot say how much the labour charge is, because at the time i also did other more major works, so one lump sum he charged me, but i do know the suspension (front) is $110 apiece, "original Toyota", so no worries Edited April 11, 2011 by The_young_once
Mydestiny Neutral Newbie April 12, 2011 Author Share April 12, 2011 Thks for the replies! Car now in workshop at AMK autopoint. Was quoted slightly less than $300. Actually I just send my car for servicing last week, tyres were swopped and after that I had this prob, I went back to the servicing shop and they say my tyres SPOIL, need to change tyres! Lucky I nvr silly-ly went to change new tyres! I asked them to swop back and went to another workshop and it was diagnosed for the front suspension prob. Now i finally understand why pple always change car before 5 yrs. Problems really start coming after 4 yrs. =.=

If a car is being use daily, most cars will have problem at year 5 or 6, those are normal wear and tear parts. Replace them is at least a cheaper option, unless it is a very costly replacement (like $10k), than to pay $400 to $1000 on monthly installment for a new car. I checked in JB but ty dont seem to hv what I want although cheaper. I prefer only original or OEM shocks so I getting fm SG n ask my mechanic to fix. Sud cost abt $400 for OEM n abt $600 for originals. This is for all 4 shocks. Also incl the rubber "stopper" fr front n rubber bushing fr rear. For 2 pcs wil b abt half. Going to agent wil sure kenna Dont forget to get a 4 wheel computerised alignment done after u change your shocks, otherwise yr handling wil b And dont trust the ws if ty say ty wil do it. Most time ty just do the cheepo side-slip test only which is not enough n ty charge u for the more ex 4 wheel computerised alignment price.
