Sometimes ABS sensor comes in because of other reasons might not be your sensor spoilt.

I used to have the ABS sensor comes in after i change my battery and need to manually calibrate my steering to reset the sensor and make the light go away..

Hi All,

I am driving a Kia Rio 1.4HB M[2009] and the ABS light have been on for more than 6 months. Did what all have suggested, but still the same. Finally went to a workshop around Toh Guan area and they are charging (for parts and labor) around 200+ with GST. They did have the tool to check and it was my left rear wheel and the person was kind enough to not charge me for the simple 5 min check.

I was told sometimes it is dirt or leaves that got caught at the sensor and so when washing the car you ask the person to spray near the brake sensor and sometimes it will dislodge the particles. But so far no such luck for me.

My question is, is it critical to get it change immediately or it is one of those that can wait till servicing?

Thanks.

ABS helps in the event of emergency braking, especially in the wet, where it prevents the wheels from locking up and gives a shorter stopping distance as compare to one that do not have ABS.

So it is your call actually but for me, I will get it done soon, I remember those days when my 1st 3 cars do not have ABS that I have to do "Tandem" braking [dizzy]

Just get it check to see which sideis mulfunction and get mechanic to take out wheel to see whether the abs o-ring is loosen or not.If loose just hammer it back and the light will go off again. That's what happen to mine.Hope it help

Light up means its faulty.

If can feel something like continuous clicking (not the actual sound/don't know how to explain) from the pedal when you slam on the brake hard while moving, means ABS is working.

Is there danger driving with the ABS light on?

How can I check on the ABS sensor without going to the workshop?

Nope, nothing happen to me..

But like most said, it's good to have.. as you never know when u need it.

It's troublesome.. you have to go to the Workshop and find out the fault.

For older model like mine, despite replacement of a new sensor..

The system still say error.. likelihood to be the board that is faulty..

It's not going to be cheap and a rare item for a 14yrs old car..

Now, searching in scrapyard for an unit but I doubt will get and it's not gonna be check.

Was thinking if I could buy one from eBay under galant or vr4 unit..

No part number also..

Any DIY method to solve problem?

I ignore the ABS warning when I feel the brakes are still working well. Sometime it is just the sensor dirty and the lights will go off by itself. If you feel the brakes with jamming sound when you brake hard, then better get the faulty sensor replaced.
