Lancer GLX sport handling and caring

I just have a problem here. When i step onto the the accerelator, the gear just cannot shift. Engine creating loud roar when i step on to accelerate. It seems to me i am in the over drive mode. The gear seems stuck.

I check the whole car and there is no over drive mode BUTTON ( which my previous car has ) the physical gear .

Can anyone advice me ? Some people tell me that there is a inherient GEAR problem with LANCER GLX. How much to change the gear box ? Overhaul gear box or change a brand new one !

Your car is manual or CVT?

Best is to send to a mechanic to have it checked asap.

if this bugs you change car, this is the problem with cvt, laggy and no response.

Nowadays cost of living is high, cannot SUKA SUKA change car. Got to take into the depreciation value, transfer fee. etc etc ..

The car itself is quite powerful. But when i floor the accelerator, the engine becomes very loud. I don feel comfortable with it. I can't feel any gear change....

CVT is supposed to be for smooth driving with its changing of gear not as obvious as the normal AT gearbox. I guess it is a matter of adjustment for you.

As for the engine sound loud, this car has poor sound insulation.

CVT gearbox not so fragile as what those past horror stories that were being circulated around. I believe the technology has since improved.

I have been driving the CVT lancer for more than 4 years and clocking 120k plus mileage with no issues or problems. Been very harsh with the car though but I change my CVT fluid on a 30k mileage interval.

What is CVT fluid ? Is it the gear box fluid ?

Bro, welcome to the world of CVT, where 1 gear is for all speeds!

CVT = continuous Variable Transmission

There's no gear change cos it's only 1 gear. The gear ratio will adjust accordingly to the speed of your car.

You will soon learn to love it (very fuel effcient since it's always optimum gear ratio) and also learn to hate it (the "rubberband" effect and noise)

You RPM will just rise without any drop to "change gear". IF you whack the throttle will rise to 6000rpm and stay here without dropping.

the cvt is not built for you to floor the accelerator. if you do that often, the gearbox will need repairs very soon

Yes. For lancer, please stick to Mitsubishi Qiaqueen III.

You can google for the car's manual (if you can find).

Lots of information. I think a car owner deserves to know all the relevant information of his car. :D

Didn't you at least test drive the car when you bought it?

Dealer themselves also must send to workshop to test b4 they eat the car.

To the TS.

If you wanna understand CVT take a look at this youtube clip:

Layman explaination of how CVT works

More technical explanation of Mitshubishi's version of the CVT system (INVEC CVT).

Yes I know it's a clip of the Dodge CVT but Mitsubishi bought/collaborate their CVT tech will GM so it's 90% techincally similar.

As you can see, optimum gear ratio. But no "kick" due to the rubberband effect. The car is as fast but you don't feel it like when using a manual or a conventional auto.

Even my Colt turbo on CVT is same, kinda frustrating cos cannot feel the turbo kick unless I switch to tiptronic, which is faking gear ratios and increasing century sprint timings.

Also, seeing that the steel gear belt stretch in and out means there's more moving parts. So as advise by the bros here, please get a ATF change just in case. Oh yes, only Mitsubishi Diaqueen III ATF for our CVTs, this is one thing that DIE DIE must use stock ATF!

Just now went to drive my new ride (lancer), i just take is slowly and drive. Floor the accelerator slowly. Boy ...the engine is smooth ... It does take time to get used to my New Ride, cos i think the gear box is build differently.

It does goes very fast, but it on gradual scale. Next time i bring this car to drive in NS Highway, this will make the CVT gear box show its true potential.
