A flat tire

 Share

Recommended Posts

Assumption: Car to be in parking lot in Singapore:-

A tyre found to be flat among the 4 tire. You got no spare tyre. You got no compact spare tyre.

If the flat tyre is among the front tire (for front wheel drive).

Loosen the wheel nuts for the side where the flat tyre is found.

Chocked the wheels on the other side of the car.

Jack the car at the fulcrum to that both wheels leave the ground about the same height.

Inter-change the flat front wheel complete with the tyre with the rear wheel/tyre.

Secure the respective wheel nuts.

Lower the car with the jack.

Check that all wheel nuts are secured.

Retrieve the wheel chocks

You are ready to drive off. Do try to have the flat tyre repaired/replaced as soon as possible. Drive within assumed speed limits for wet and slippery road.

Anyone with other observations to share?

Another thing one can do is to buy a foot pump (or electrical powered pump) and keep it in the boot.

When one tire is flat, pump up that tire with enough air to bring it to a tire shop (or the nearest air pump so that you can then bring the car to the tire shop).

How to jack at fulcrum without damaging undercarriage, no jacking point, and car jack may not have rating to jack 50% of car weight. usually SWL is 25% of car weight.

If jack topple in the process..... one side of car will be grounded.

Use footpump or electric pump.

I also keep 2 bottles of Green slime tyre sealant.

Some cars do come with fulcrum point if you observe. Example: for Sirion/Myvi, the 4th rubber plug fron the front wheel, along the sill is the fulcrum for scissor jack. Most/all scissor jacks are capable of 750kg upwards (car weight 900kg to 1400kg). Hydraulic jack may have much higher capacity.

It is a good idea, if tyre still can be inflated (can be too seriously damaged).

yap. I also use that. both for me and my wife and it saves us a lot of trouble... its so simple to use and even my wife knows how to use it. just tighten the valve to the tyre valve and spray in the "glue" into the tyre.... Unless ur tyre its cracked, otherwise, even your tyre its punched by a few nails also can last you a few days...
