You gotto find out how rims are made in the first place. Ideally rims are cast using a method call centrifugal casting, weight is well distributed & there's less chance of porousity form inside the rims. But this method is costly. Dan there's the material used which can be steel or aluminum alloy.

 

Chiong ones could be using cheaper casting method like sand casting whereby weight is not evenly distributed which will affect the structural integrity of the rim. The material used for the casting might be of substandard quality further affecting the strength of the rim.

Agree. Stupid people are fueling the imitation rim industry.

At least not all these fake rims print the actual brand of the original.

Wedssports imitations often have racing sports, websports, printed on them

Maybe they should have the words ricer sports.....

imitation rims will also tend to be "out of shape" after driving a couple of months.

personally i would rather stay stock than buy cheong.

At the end of the day it's your choice. You may be an exception rather than the norm.

I have seen a number of wannabe boy racers who put immitation rims on their ride. Hence this impression.

Imitation rims can crack easily as shown in the video. I believe that there's another thread on this showing the exact same video

There is a reason why i'm against imitation parts for cars.

The reason is this, a car is complicated. An imitation part can be detrimental to the cars performance. Surely you wouldn't get fake brakes or suspension when you know that this is what the car depends on to get you to places? Same with the rims.

Besides aren't there original rims that can fit your ride?

some times mount kerb rim gone, so go buy cheap rim lol...... 2ndly rims are like hand bags... change quarterly.... imitation rims is cheap and can chnage like hand bags ma

Hand bags don't pose a safety risk. Rims do. Imitation rims after awhile may become bent or out of shape, due to the fact that some may not be able to support the weight of the car. This can cause handling problems so i believe it's wise to invest in a set of original rims.

 

Furthermore originals last longer. You won't want to continuously replace imitation rims because they fail on you spending the same amount of money you would have spent buying an original set of rims. Penny wise pound foolish much.

Clearly they're idiots for trying to save on tyres. And that's why if they're so miserly then they should just keep to stock rims. Stock rims are still better than those imitations available. Replica is just a super politically correct way of saying fake.

i dont think replica rims that sucks... my kakis mentioned mine is replica A tech compeition silver...though it stated 5.9kg and made in Japan

If this is replica, i really love this rim. i'm the 2nd owner, and this rim is coming to 6 yrs old... it seem good and lasting... [laugh]

Why don't you go weigh the rim to see if it's really 5.9 kg then you'll know if it's real.

If it's fake, then you most probably are a very careful driver.

Just look at the link posted above of the EVO 9 damaged because the rims snapped and the driver lost control of the car.

i weighed it with my 16 inch tire...and the total weight is slightly more than 15 kg... its never cross my mind to weigh the rim alone... [laugh]

and i understand where you coming from.

 

i don't like people to zoom zoom around me also..

because i ever out run a picanto that is heavily zhng-ed. i feel bad for making him look bad.

 

bought this car 2nd hand 3 yrs ago, the rim is badly scratched, chrome plating all gone..

so no choice i need to change it.. at the same time, upsize it.

 

went to S.H Bro.... that time,, very hot in forum,, didn't know he sell imitation goods.. i only know the price is good..

but now i looking for 2nd hand non-imitation ones.. i would rather use money on proper maintenance and petrol.

looks of the car to me is still secondary. proper upkeep of the car is still primary, of course, safety too.
