NSE alignment fully out

Singapore has a macro view in urban planning, a new expressway across the island with underground sections cutting into the city along side MRT tunnels and existing expressways....also taking into consideration present structures in the way, resource allocating, funding etc...etc..wah lau give a break lah ... its not like deciding to eat laksa or chicken rice for lunch wat.....what has it got to do with FT ??

i have been involved in design work for quite many years, 10 yrs to produce proposals for this is a long time.... what profession are you in to make you say what you said? [:)]

i have a feeling that they intentionally place the NSE on the backburner just like how they took the chance to delay building more hospitals for 2 years and then regretted about it. Seems like my impression that all these urban planning developments were all factored in 50 year master plan(s) is wrong.

what is so exciting about this expressway?

end up like KPE 70km/hr with many cameras, waste time and resources.

nobody said that designing new roads and creating better traffic bandwidth are exciting tasks to begin with.

So what is it supposed to do? waste our money, dig more holes and ruin the roads even more?

FFS fix all the roads instead of making more Zzzz

It just doesnt do nothing to have shaved 10 mins off travelling from the east to the north Zzzz

Just simply increase the speed limit and we can drive faster there.

Matter of fact is, having another duplicate road will increase the traffic throughput from north to south and south to north and the effect will be easily be superior to increasing the speed limit on existing CTE for e.g. Also, granted that we adjust the speed limit, how high can you go?

I do not suppose the speed limits of 90km/h on the CTE or 50km/h, 60km/h or 70km/h if you will, on the trunk roads are the primary culprits behind the slowdowns. The average traffic speeds as clocked by LTA even on the expressways are way below the speed limits @ about 40~50+km/h. Rather, the real reason is the fact that we have simply too much vehicles on the road. If you don't dig and do the necessary construction, how on earth are you going to have a new road? A new road will fall down in place from the sky? Such inconveniences are inevitable.

Sorry i guess when you bring out your many years of profession involvement in design work to support your argument that 10 years to produce a proposal for a project of this magnitude is unacceptable, then i must admit my professional will not carry enough weight to match yours in this argument.

I am just thinking using my layman understanding that given the magnitude of this project, the long term implication on the urban landscape of Singapore and the $$$ that are needed, then 10 years of planning is ok wat. Take a little time to finalize things is better than to rush and then screw up later.

The designing and aligning the expressway is just one variable in the equation, there are many other variables to consider as well right? The more complex the equation the more time that will be needed to solve it right? Soooo 10 years in my personal opinion is ok wat...just asking people to give the decision makers a break thats all.

Then my learned forumer, in your professional opinion how long do you think the government should take to finalize this project from feasibility studies till public announcement ?? [:)]

If SG has such a macro view then please explain this.............why did PAP allow the blowout in the car population (think the $1 COE debacle). Why if they have so much foresight do we have the cut and cover works for the downtown line along Ophir going on then just as that gets finished lets start all over again and do it now for the NSE? Since they have the road diverted and opened up, why not do the two at once saving time and money. Thats foresight and planning.

Then there is the Open Net shambles - lets dig up every road and make a mess - why not cover in all those third world drains along streets, put the cables there, extend the footpaths and make green verges so we have safe, well planned footpaths/bikeways and less eyesore and third world living?

Real foresight is this - by 2020 what will a COE cost and what will petrol cost and what will all those people who could only ever "afford" a one dollar car do then? That is what to plan for At least we will have a world class metro.

That is rubbish, more of excuses to cover up initial lack of foresight, thats how I see it. This is like once bitten twice shy, now scare same thing happen again hence now really plan.

If it is such rubbish (IYO) then please explain why LTA is now pushing through this "foresight" AFTER the fact? The fact that PAP had so little foresight re population planning (unless you are foolish enough to think that a 6 - 8M target on this little isle is sustainable at present levels / standards of living), associated car population growth (aided and abetted by aforementioned COE giveaway) and the impact anyone with a brain could foresee

PIE is another classic example - a poorly designed road with way too many ingress and egress points to be functional as intended. There was the foresight to build the PIE when they did but then did NOT have the right planning skills or expertise to forsee the shambolick result as population increased.

thank you my more learned essay writer friend, you have to find out yourself since you are interested to know

Thats why I said, lack of foresight at the initial stage. But to be frank, I still think the current development to expand all these roads are also slow and end result will still be the same. I agree its not sustainable for 6 - 8m people, more will have to be done.

Yes sounds like we are in violent agreement re slowness of roll out

To be fair to the government - they ARE rolling out a very fine metro but again with more foresight they could have done a better job of integrating the interchanges between lines than they have and are.

Whilst Im not a fan of the political system here, it has to be said that with a one party system there is greater opportunity for cohesive, long term planning.
