13177 Hypersonic December 28, 2011 Share December 28, 2011 Looks like quite a few of birds are not under any govt bodies in charge or town council. So when they give problems to people, no one can do anything to them?! Remember read an article in wanbao, someone complaint that he could not sleep due to some bird making squeaking sound between 5am to 7am every morning! And no one is able to help him to get rid of the bird!

Camrysfa Turbocharged May 1, 2018 Share May 1, 2018 heard a dicussion on radio 93.8 yesterday. it was about birds ( mainly pidgeons ) causing nuisance at food centres .... shitting, picking food from customer's bowls. a lot of blame was put on the public who feed them. this group according to the callers are the seniors. an MP who was formerly from ACRES is suggesting issuing warrant card to volunteers to help nab bird feeders. listening to the callers complaining, the cause of the nuisance seems to be created by the feeders. but how about NEA/AVA ...... if pidgeons or mynahs are causing hygiene problems at food centres/coffee shops, what else can they do to eradicate the problem.

Remember read an article in wanbao, someone complaint that he could not sleep due to some bird making squeaking sound between 5am to 7am every morning! From https://www.wrs.com.sg/en/jurong-bird-park/animals-and-zones/oriental-pied-hornbill.html, "Extinct in Singapore by 1855, the species made a surprising comeback in 1994, first on Pulau Ubin and then on mainland Singapore. The bird is re-establishing healthy colonies here, thanks to our collaborative efforts with NParks, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Avian Conservation Project." Hornbill calls from 0m 2s.

Fitvip Supersonic May 1, 2018 Share May 1, 2018 Feeding of the birds is everyday affair. There is this man who would bring a few small fish in a plastic bag to the bridge at Sungei Tampines and feed the king fisher there everyday. He and a few friends would wait on the bridge for the bird to appear and throw the fish for the bird under the bridge to catch. If the bird is not there, he would whistle to call the bird out! This is true. It's a real problem. There are some kind-hearted people who feels that they must feed all the wild birds, and their belief is that is doing good. These people are not bad people, but they are likely to be uneducated, and uninformed and ignorant of the problems that are associated with a growing population of these birds. Many years ago, I had ever kept a close tab on someone in the neighbourhood who would do this everyday, and later when I've confirmed the routine, reported to NEA. They came to standby, and then spoke to the man when he next did it. Not sure whether he was fined, but the routine then stopped. I wonder the pigeons here are healthy ones or not? If so, should bring in some chefs/restaurants from HK/China, to go around nab all those pigeons to make roasted pigeons 烧乳鸽!Can help the economy in the process... As for the crows and mynahs... dunno how to curb their growth... Instead of blaming so and so, they should rectify the problem It's not so much of blaming, but it is necessary to nip the bud of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. And the bud of the problem is there are kind-hearted people who think they are doing good by feeding the birds - totally not aware of the ill effect that will bring...
