Scam calls from Chinese man..

So this is how their operation center looks like.

 

yesterday I also received 3 missed calls from this zimbawe number.

 

so it was a ploy for us to dial the callback and incur the charges?  what do they stand to gain if they are not from Singapore Telco?

 

And i dont think the telcos can help to bar certain numbers only. Its either all or none.

yeah I understand.  I mean I am curious what the zimbawean dialer stands to gain from this operation.

 

all the 3 calls to my mobile were hung up in double quick time.  if it was not an attempt to trick me into dialing back, I can't figure out what is their motive?  and if it was aimed at getting me to dial back, I thought the only beneficiary would be the Telco and not the dialer?

 any call from SG to other country, SG Telco needs to pay interconnection charges to the terminating country Telco.

Around 3 years ago I received a call from a man with mobile number +86 and started off with "hey friend, how are you? Do you know who I am?" I was so ignorant that I responded a name which I thought he's a supplier of mine from China. He acknowledged the name and said he's in Kuala Lumpur now and is going to Singapore to visit me the next day. As the mobile number did not tally with the one that my supplier is carrying, I clarify with him and he told me he's on a vacation and left his company mobile phone in China and wanted me to contact him using the number that displayed on my caller ID. Everything sounded so real and genuine and I actually got myself prepared for his next day arrival to Singapore.

 

The next morning, his con-act begins.

 

9am - I received the call from him and the first thing I asked was his ETA timing to Singapore. He told me he has some trouble but did not request help from me. He said will reach Singapore slightly late after resolving his problem.

 

10am - He called again and told me that he might not be able to come Singapore as he was held up in a Police Station. He said he got into a fight with someone in a PUB the night before and he's waiting for someone to bail him out. I told him OK and asked if he needed my help. He said No and he could get one of his friend in KL to bail him out. I said OK and do call me if you need help.

 

11am. - He called again and said the other party he injured during the fight wants a compensation from him. He asked if he could borrow RM 20K from me. (At this point of time I still believe him but started to get suspicious). I said OK and please tell me which Police Station you are in and I'll get my partner who is living in KL to resolve for you. He refused to tell me and said he has been transferred to Malacca Police Station and wanted me to remit the money to his friend's account. WTF? I asked him again, please tell me your name again and the company you are work for? He HUNG up.

 

 

 

Just last year, a China woman called me with caller ID display +852 and said they are an established travel agent company in Hong Kong and would like to conduct a survey with me. She told me they are setting up a branch in Malaysia and there will be lucky draw if I participate the survey. I knew their intention but decided to play along. She started to ask for my particular and I gave her a fake name and participated some stupid questions that she asked. She thank me and said they will call back if I'm one of the lucky winner.

 

3 days later, I received a call with the same number +852 and ask "Are you XXX" where the XXX was the fake name I had given her. She congrats me with a very convincing tone and said I've won a pair of Ticket to Hawaii. As I knew it's a con, I played along by responding to her "REALLY? I'm so lucky and thank you for the lucky draw." From there, I had about 15mins of conversation with her asking about the trip and her company. She even asked me to call back the number that display on my phone to verify the existence of her company. Finally she told me the condition on how to claim my prize. She wanted some kind of processing fee to be transferred. I said to her, “既然我们这么谈的来，你要不要做我的另一半一起到夏威夷欢乐一场？ 机票我送你，登记费用你付“。I think she knew that I am aware and she hung up. Seriously, this was fun.
